I worked at Costa Coffee part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team environment. Also a good place to work with customer focus. Management really cared about the store that I worked in.

    Cons

Understaffed at busy times. Sometimes felt like you couldn't give the best customer experience because there weren't enough staff on.

    Advice to Management

Just to ensure that it is always well staffed.

    Pros

The parent company offers more respect, incentives, training, pay, bonuses. Great company of you work hard.
Opportunity to advance can be high

    Cons

Franchise companies maybe not so much.
Pay can still be kinda low, even lower with franchise
    Kinda strict rule set
    Costa check

    Advice to Management

    Mirror parent company ideas

I have been working at Costa Coffee part-time

    Pros

Working as a barista at a busy Costa Coffee store means that it is never boring. If you can use your initiative, there is always a job that needs doing.

    Cons

Being at a busy store can mean it can be very tiring. Additionally, with only 30 minutes break for each 6 hours you work means you can be on your feet for a very long day

    Advice to Management

Add more breaks/ stop trying to reduce labour costs

I have been working at Costa Coffee full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free drinks on shift and that’s about it to be honest. Pretty good at giving you the hours you want.

    Cons

Management are a disgrace. Very critical, disrespectful, lazy and ungrateful. Very little praise to very hard working staff. Criticism for every little thing and shouts across the store to reprimand while customers are around which is humiliating. Most staff are planning on leaving. Don’t plan to work here long term.
Long hours and hard work - particularly cleaning the shop at the end of the day. Usually one member of staff cleans the entire store while someone else finishes serving customers and cashes up. Rare to finish on time due to too much work to do and not enough staff at the end of the day.

    Advice to Management

Offer more incentive for your staff to stay. Respect them and learn their names. Put in as much effort as you expect your staff to do. Praise where praise is due. Make sure you’re implementing a training scheme rather than just dropping people in the deep end when they start. Also £7.50 an hour is not enough to be cleaning public toilets.
