I worked at Connections Academy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great teachers and great to work with when you actually do Good leadership Work from home

    Cons

    - Pay is AT LEAST $8k+ lower than a comparable teacher... but you "work from home..." so you don't have to pay for clothes or wear & tear on your car - Benefits are expensive and not fully covered like other districts - They used COVID-19 to enroll more students, didn't provide more pay for the 20+ extra students per class - Little time off when you start and you don't get a sub... soooo its extra work the day you get back - Pearson shareholders are more important than students - No union - I have a hard time believing anyone above the state director is actually in it for children - You ultimately work for Pearson, who is a questionable company - They're talking about not awarding raises/bonuses next year because of government funding, even though Pearson made a lot of money last year (CEO made well over $6m) - Many of the students have failed at other schools, so you will have a lot of students and parents who aren't invested in their schooling - working from home can actually be pretty boring if you are a teacher and are used to talking with students and staff on a daily basis

    No Opinion of CEO

I have been working at Connections Academy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work at home with the exception of Testing and State meetings

    Cons

    - Leadership uses harassment, bullying and "gas lighting techniques" to the point of illegal discriminatory practices Counselors are constantly micromanaged in everything that they do -from what words to say to a student to not putting a colon after your name on an email. There is absolutely no autonomy. You are to follow a manual made by management that was written based on managers opinions. You must follow this at all times. The Counseling staff is constantly berated and their skills are always evaluated by so called leaders. It is an incredibly toxic environment. People who continue to work at the school do so primarily for the fact that they do not usually have to leave their homes for the job. However the lack of respect is causing many to look for other opportunities. SC Connections Academy is a for profit charter school. The primary objective is to stay open and make money. Student Learning is not a priority.

Our teams work hard to keep compensation and benefits packages competitive by conducting a review each year with feedback from staff and market analysis data. Thank you for your review! Working from home can provide more flexibility for those with families, while still allowing school staff to be there for students when they are needed. Events such as in-person staff meetings and training, state testing, field trips and online video LiveLessons help maintain the social connections that are so important for work-from-home employees. If you would like to further discuss your experiences with Human Resources, please email humanresources.obl@pearson.com.
