Micromanaging Executive Team
May 14, 2023 - Faculty Member in Austin, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Fellow professors and most of the students make me stay. Lovely campus nestled in the hill country.
Cons
Faculty are overworked, underpaid and constant reorganizations. Faculty are not respected unless part of the favored few. Lack of shared governance structure, frequent firings, and the smart ones are pushed out or just leave.

A Premier Sinking Ship with Layoffs for Lifeboats
Mar 9, 2022 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Some staff work tirelessly under very low wages, because they are devoted to the idea of a 'premier university', so there are some nice folks there.
Cons
Its published Core Values don't reflect the reality, one of which is 'Caring for People'. Undervalued, low pay, with frequent 'reorganizations' that mask underlying age and race discrimination and lack of institutional direction. There is an obvious disconnect between the student experience and what staff deal with on a day-to-day basis – routine reorganizations that result in shifting responsibilities, fear of yet another reorg. Near poverty level wages for professional staff while charging students unbelievable tuition rates, leaves one wondering why wages can’t be higher. Upper-level management prefer to promote low-paid, inexperienced staff who will follow their every lead. If you’re naive and enjoy a cult mentality, it’s the place for you. If you’re an experienced professional that tries to fix what’s broken, don’t waste your time.
