I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, nice vacation package. Some areas are run great while others leave you wondering how they continue to function. The good news is, there is often opportunity to move around if you find yourself in one of those questionable areas.

    Cons

Too many areas work on a 'bonus' system. It appears the company can't make more money, so non-management areas are understaffed in order for managers to continue to earn their bonus. It's a shame; there are good people who work here and we're running them off because of low pay and terrible staffing conditions.

    Advice to Management

    Get honest.

I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They are really excited about their team and put the employees first. They like to hire from within and are always promoting events and conferences to help their employee become more prepared and ready for anything. Higher-Up employees are very helpful and interact with everyone on the team.

    Cons

If you work at a branch, you will have to be ready to possibly working on saturdays, but only for a few hours in the morning.

    Advice to Management

    None.

I worked at Commerce Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Prime Location Downtown that is easy to get to. Some floors are recently renovated.

    Cons

    "No" Organization
Almost always takes the least expensive option for any project
    Office Politics Galore

    Advice to Management

Average tenure of employees is 10 years but turn over for younger employees is very high. The pay is below industry average yet the upper mgmt claim "we have the best margins in the area." I would let people spend a little firm money so things wont be so compartmentalized. If you wonder why you have very few young people working here / sticking around, it is because the bank operate on a "Thats how dad did it" basis and wont let innovation change processes. I consider having worked here a step backward in my career.

I worked at Commerce Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Standard bank as far as benefits. Ability to buy extra vacation. Nice art collection. Raises of about 1% each year.

    Cons

“Blue Chip” items are supposed to improve the bank but what it comes down too is added responsibility on the already overworked employee. Specifically in commercial banking, where turnover has been much higher in recent years. The office has become increasingly male dominated and the top few are the ones that control everything, with no desire to give a damn about the rest of the employees.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach on edge concepts and give the employees some support to do their job.

I worked at Commerce Bank full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Professional environment with decent managers.
    Good people to work with.
    People do their best.
People are always learning how to do their job better.

    Cons

Manage is very bonus driven and does not spend funds on everything needed or even required for the industry and employees.
Management is changing over quite a bit and there is an increasing number of significantly less experienced management.
Management has focused on hiring a majority of inexperienced staff and training them internally, which does not always instruct the new employees on the processes necessary for proper operations, mostly because as noted, many of the management is trending to be less experienced (and fully knowledgeable) themselves and do not always provide adequate direction and basis for procedural functions.

    Advice to Management

Provide a significant number of experienced managers and senior staff so proper and effective processes and procedures as well as the basis for such can be provided to staff building up their knowledge and experience.

I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedules, no micro-managing, provide the right tools and environment to get the job done

    Cons

Very political, was put in many situations where my job was to deal with political BS instead of managing the project

    Advice to Management

Protect individuals from being put in the middle of impossible situations to manage because company politics was more important to leadership than the status of the project

    Pros

Great benifits, extensive training, friendly environment. Great place to start in a professional environment.

    Cons

Not much room for growth in the branches, high sales expectations for home equitly products and other loans to receive bonuses. Also expect to work most saturdays.
