I worked at Coinsquare full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Since the new CTO step up, he put a lot of effort on shielding the rest of the tech team from random request coming from outside of the tech team, and maintaining a relatively successful process to iterate and educating business side about agile process (the fast do-fix-learn cycle). The technical directors are very knowledgeable of what they do, and together with team leads they build a strong team of developers. I would say it was a pleasant experience towards the 2nd half of 2019, when wounds are recovered and a group of competent developers are formed.

    Cons

The tech team was on a critical mission and the timeline was tie. Pressure is increasing and people start staying late in the office.

I have been working at Coinsquare full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Snacks -office environment -good tech resources -some good people

    Cons

-Unprofessional managers and senior leaders, consistent inappropriate actions from people who should know better - Incompetent/unreliable hr team who doesn't actually care about people only the person who signs their pay -Many half assed projects that get scrapped and re-started, depending on what the CEO cares about that day -Cole Diamond lacks any shred of basic human empathy or compassion. His ego dictates most of if not all business decisions, at the expense of the staff. He promised to prioritize jobs and people, only to do a lay off a week after..we are also losing significant and trusted department heads because of his reckless behaviour and stubborn refusal to address staff's legitimate concerns. People worry for their jobs and livelihood everyday and he would rather spend time throwing money and pizza parties at everyone to distract us from his failure as a leader. You can't believe a word that he says and people are seeing that more and more each day

I worked at Coinsquare full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Nice office and downtown location

    Cons

Pretty much everything else. Company got lucky in 2017, then it went down from there. Executive team is a joke. All the negative comments here are true. CEO is obsessed of himself and have no intention to run a sustainable business.

I have been working at Coinsquare full-time for less than a year

    Pros

the office space? to echo the others

    Cons

First off. If you’re a women and are thinking about joining Coinsquare be prepared to not get far here. Women are the least promoted, lowest paid (across every division) and constantly gaslighted. Programs are introduced to “help” the women at Coinsquare but then removed by HR (of all teams). The CEO has a personal therapist to educate himself on how to work with women (after taking away the program that was supposed to “help” the women of Coinsquare). The only C level female executive is constantly and publicly talked down to. Constant comments from other male executives about how she doesn’t need to be included in important meetings. The HR team is a joke. Programs are constantly changing. New benefit package just released (which is one of the worst I’ve ever seen) with no warning of changes. If questioned the response is always : It’s been communicated on Slack or town hall one time months ago. Business teams consistently talk down on engineering teams about missing deadlines when business units can’t even align on an overall company objective. The CEO is the most unauthentic joke of a person and the founder is MIA The shares are absolute garbage. Company has yet to launch anything new since the founder built the original platform. I can go on. If you want your humanity to stay intact do not join this place.

    Pros

Office space downtown Toronto is nice.

    Cons

Management, leadership, platform, HR, benefits, salaries. There is no end in sight to the things that this company has done wrong. I mostly feel sorry for shareholders and for employees who have been led to believe their shares are worth anything.

I have been working at Coinsquare full-time

    Pros

Coinsquare has invested in it's employees for a nice work space, good benefits, Camp Coinsquare and a well stocked fridge and cupboard of food. They've done a good job at ticking the boxes on the stereotypical startup stuff that you'll find anywhere else in the city.

    Cons

I've been working in the Toronto tech space for over ten years and Coinsquare is the worst professional experience I've had, and one of the worst I've ever heard about in the city. The dev team is buried in technical debt and constantly at eachothers throats, the design team is strong but lacks leadership and vision, the sales team is a testosterone-fuelled boiler room, and Coin Capital could have brought in more money selling lemonade than they have selling their ETFs. The CEO is an 'all talk, no action' kind of guy (Remember the IPO haha!) that really only cares about making headlines and managing the mining team - he's completely disconnected from every other aspect of the business - we'd be better served hiring the Raptors hype-man. The only teams that seem to have things under control are Compliance and Finance/Accounting - everything else is a metaphorical chicken with its head cut off. Coinsquare just hired their first employee in April 2017, yet they already have over 130 alum that have left the company (or been fired). I think the only profession with higher turnover is driving for Uber. Toxic is an aggressive word to throw around so I'll refrain, but I don't know anybody in the company that wakes up excited to come to work in the morning. If you're already at the company and planning to stay, I'd recommend reading up on the term Preference Stack. This knowledge will come in handy down the road.
