Great Employeer, High Salary, Awesome Benefits, Cut the corporate bs, promote internal employees

      Pros

      - Very good salary and compensation - for unionized, it's an annual wage scale based on your wage grade and wage step (e.g Wage Grade 15, Step 4). - Very good benefits package - OMERS pension plan, Manulife $10,000 annual health coverage (vision, dental, ortho, pharma, medical). - Very good work options - during COVID-19 pandemic entirely online, at-home, during 2022 reopening, it was hybrid so 1-2 in office, rest at home - Very good career improvement/advancement - they used to prefer experience than education but now education trumps. Although seniority does matter. At any given time, the City has 100 external openings and 200 internal (some postings are for like 1, 5, 10 jobs).

      Cons

      - Actually, the higher you move up, the easier the work becomes in my opinion so move up - Corporate politics - this is the municipal government in the largest city in the country and the largest employer in the GTA - almost 40,000 divisional employees alone and 100,000 Toronto Public Service employees. Lot's of gossip. - Depends on what division you are working in. There are 44 divisions divided into three groups: corporate services, community services, infrastructure services. Corporate is the most corporate. Community is the most work. Infrastructure is the most complex. - Back-end divisions like Fleet Services are the best in some cases. The City is weird. You can work in a fancy place like City Hall in City Clerks Division or a Garage in Fleet Services Division and make $100,000 in both.
