I worked at City of Toronto part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great hours for students and part time workers Organized paid training provided every season Consistent standards of expectations and procedures across districts

    Cons

Little upward mobility No more pay increase based on more qualifications or seniority. Flat rate regardless of experience or location. Higher seniority required for the better shifts. Some shifts can be very short or have very long unpaid breaks. Most, but not all supervisors properly adhere to the Collective Agreement. Obvious favouritism among some supervisors. Application of the department rules can be inconsistent at times. Working in multiple locations/under different supervisors can make ensuring pay accuracy very difficult and frustrating - since any pay discrepancy requires the staff to contact each and every supervisor he/she worked under, in order to verify the number of hours paid correctly matches the hours worked. This information is left out of pay stubs. VERY INCONVENIENT FOR EMPLOYEES

I worked at City of Toronto full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

One of the more rigid work environments I've ever experienced. Pay's well; if you can handle the work environment. Great place for the unmotivated and paper-pushing type. They provide staff councillors on call to deal with the toxic work environment.

    Cons

Work environment, rigid mindsets, petty politics, and status quo maintenance.
