I have been working at Chartwell Retirement Residences full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great frontline staff to work with!

    Cons

Way under staffed, poor management Management tries to pit employees against each other, they show little to no respect or appreciation for all the good thier employees do, no acknowledgement for people who.go above and beyond to make the lives of the residences better and how they go the distance for thier coworkers. Shame on them all!!9

I have been working at Chartwell Retirement Residences full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Working with seniors and sharing in their day. Helping them smile and feel comfortable and taken care of.

    Cons

Always working short staffed, Management treating the front line workers with no respect, DOC and Administrator are clueless to what actually goes on and how our job is done. Very little time is actually spent doing care for the residents because everything is about how fast everything can get done. Staff is actually told that "charting and books are most important to get done over resident care because that's how we receive funding".....since when is senior care a "business"??? These are actually people. Human beings. They are our grandmas and grandpas that fought in the war and made a living and a foundation for our families....being treated like cattle.

I have been working at Chartwell Retirement Residences part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some of the staff there are great to work with. Close to transit and highway system. There is a nearby park to escape to for a break.

    Cons

*Really bad management, appear to be just plain dumb. *Not progressive *No respect for employees *The place as more security cams both inside and out, then I have ever seen at any other retirement home. *Management wants to know where you are at all times, even if you go to the bathroom. *Mission statement is just that a statement. *Management puts on a smiley face, only for special times...like when there are any family members around. *They make up lies about you, if they don't like you, and try their best to make your life a living hell in hopes you will quit!

I worked at Chartwell Retirement Residences full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There is only one redeeming quality of Chartwell - that being the wonderful residents. If they only knew what went on behind the scenes.

    Cons

The company Vision "Making people's lives better" is a joke. The only thing they want to make better is the bottom line to the shareholders. Their values are stated as Respect, Empathy, Service Excellence, Performance, Education, Commitment and Trust Yes, that spells "RESPECT", but don't' expect much. There is no respect there. They give fancy titles to various positions to glorify them, but it means nothing. Upper management will treat you like the hired help even though you are classified a "Manager". They will not respect or value your opinions and will constantly change the "rules" to suit their current requirement. Upper management thinks they always know best and will not listen to any input by anyone they deem to be beneath them. The operating procedures are unclear and/or undocumented, or if they are documented, it is out of date. Nobody seems to know exactly how things work or should be done. Flying by the seat of your pants comes to mind. So if you are looking for a well run, efficient and gratifying work experience, you should probably think twice about Chartwell. They exhibit the typical "grow too fast at whatever cost" syndrome and the employees are paying the price. The attrition rate is extremely high, and in some cases, the occupancy rate extremely low. That in itself should tell you something.
