I worked at Chartwell Retirement Residences part-time for less than a year

    Pros

nothing positive after what I experienced when I was training at chartwell.

    Cons

I worked at chartwell for less than a week and it was terribly run. I worked at the front desk as a concierg and it was so stressful. not a nice feeling starting a new job! I thought I was going to be doing reception but that's not all, I was running the whole place, while 200 plus residents lives were in my hands. the amount of things you are expected to do and get done was insane. management seriously needs to consider having two people working the front desk at all times. especially if you have to responds to nurse alarms, you cant be in two places at once. the lady that was training me was very eratic. she was running all over the place, I couldn't even keep up with her or take note. I was told that the front desk does not get a break and that the portable phone that they use when away from the desk, has to be taken with you to use the washroom. weird and gross! one resident even stated how stressed the lady was that was training me. stating she needs a day off and a drink. they called me into the office on my last training shift telling me that management thought I looked unhappy at the desk. which I found to be very criticizing and judgmental. I know myself that I am a very friendly positive person which is why I chose to work around people. although I think anyone would look a bit stressed after finding out you get no break for eight hours and have to take the phone to the restrooms. they ended up firing me over voice mail which is SO professional and shows an amazing lack of respect towards they're employees.
