I worked at Charles River Development for more than a year

    Pros

Great product (CRIMS), OK employee training. Unbeatable work-life balance as work-from-home is greatly encouraged (for the Canada-based employees) Folks in Product Development are highly experienced, great wealth of industry knowledge.

    Cons

Poor management structure. Unreasonably high emphasis on 'billables' creates an environment where everyone is out for themselves, no team atmosphere. Lack of commitment to fix-and-improve things.

    Advice to Management

Work with employees to make a more pleasant work environment, work towards a more dynamic structure and treat people with respect.

    Pros

Since the acquisition of State Street, CRD is experiencing a re-birth. Former employees are coming back, morale is high, the market opportunity is strong and CRD+State Street are investing heavily in people, processes and tools.

    Cons

The integration of CRD and State Street, like an other integration of its kind, is taking time and it sometimes feels like it slows down efficiency.

    Advice to Management

Keep the many good things that CRD has built over the years, but also embrace what State Street can bring to the table.

I worked at Charles River Development part-time for less than a year

      Pros

Good scrum and learning experience. But not valid one towards industry leading tech stack.

      Cons

Legacy functionality. Strict work culture and not able to interact.

I worked at Charles River Development full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Above average salary Prepares you amazingly for your next job as you would have been exposed to horrible environment with no career progression and shocking management so where ever you go after CRD is a breeze as you can handle any stressful or high pressure situation.

      Cons

Toxic environment where management does whatever they want and get away with it without any consequences. Save yourself and do not join - yes the salary is better but it is not worth it... they will suck the life out of you and before you know it you have been there for years and years as you think you won’t get anything better which is total bs. No career progression whatsoever.

      Advice to Management

Management needs to all be fired and start fresh

I have been working at Charles River Development full-time for more than a year

      Pros

      1) If you are on F1 this is a good place to get your H1B filing done. 2) This is a good place to be for less than 2 years, if you are an entry level person. The reason I say this is because most of the times in schools we are not taught how to write maintainable software. We just know how to program and make things work. Here you can learn how to write a good quality product. Provided you are a software developer.

      Cons

This one is a long list. I'll start with some recent things happening here. CRD got acquired by State Street. Yayyy !! Wohoooo!! This was the best thing that happened to CRD in 2018. Because our previous CEO was known to be micro-manager who had strict policies such as no WFH, no flex timing, etc. But soon in 2019 we realized we have a much bad owner now which is a bank. So what does that mean now ? 1) No GC filing...

I worked at Charles River Development full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Tons of responsibility for a first job Lots of exposure to senior management Consistently pushed to learn more

      Cons

When sent out into the field, support can be very limited at times. For somebody that didn't have contacts within engineering, it can be extremely daunting. Very sink or swim mentality. Nonexistant company culture.

      Advice to Management

      More feedback and communication, please.

I worked at Charles River Development full-time for less than a year

      Pros

If you want to work hard and then not get appreciated then this is the right company. Few teams have good managers who support their teammates so totally luck driven.

      Cons

Mediocre work and legacy code base on which they build their new projects. Manager tried to micro manage everything irrespective of work being completed on time so it was frustrating.
