I worked at Century Casino Calgary part-time for more than a year

    Pros

You get 25% off food from the kitchen on your breaks. Most employees are nice. Free bowling/mini golf. That’s it.

    Cons

UPPER MANAGEMENT IS A JOKE!! They are all up on their high horse acting like nothing else is going on outside of their little box when in reality everything falls apart. You work 40+ hours a week but don’t receive benefits because even though you’re working full time hours you’re only “part time”. There is also a huge lack of communication. Marketing is CONSTANTLY making promotions or changing pricing to make money and produce clientele but never tells the employees about it and were left explaining to the customer why we didn’t know the pricing. It’s embarrassing. Not only that but it’s incredibly understaffed and there’s 3 desks to pay attention to so everyone’s running around like a chicken with their head cut off trying to attend mini golf, the bar, get people on lanes, answer phones, and clean up the lanes. It’s a mess. And upper management tries to “help” by sitting at a table on their computer. If you’re hired as a CSR make sure it’s not in the bowling alley. You’ll regret it, not worth minimum wage.

    Century Casino Calgary Response

    May 7, 2018HR Manager

I am sorry to hear that you had a negative experience while working in our Bowling Center. We have gone through some changes in this department and believe that having additional support from the management team will provide us with the opportunity to understand the challenges . We value your perspective and we will continue to find ways to improve our overall communication and processes.

    Pros

    You can bowl for free

    Cons

They will short you on tips, grat, overtime, standard hours for pay. You are exepected to do the job of multiple people, while making minimum. You won't get anywhere near as much tips as they say you will. The supervisors on the bowling side will activly schedule you on almost unworkable shifts, and schedule you to work on days you say you don't have availability. The managers will break labour laws and be shocked when you are upset about that. They will pry into your private life and try to force you to answer their questions about it, and try to humiliate you.

I have been working at Century Casino Calgary

    Pros

General managers great people and very respectful Great patrons, and co-workers

    Cons

(Security)Management does not listen to employees, and does not attempt to solve work related issues, problems get swept under the rug. The biggest problem is the neglect that employees get supervisors are lazy and are told to let other people run the shift while the watch netflix and play on facebook, management refuses to investigate and responds with "if you dont like it then quit"

I worked at Century Casino Calgary

    Pros

    - Most of the staff are genuinely pleasant human beings to be around, they do their job to the best of their abilities and they try to make it a fun environment to work in. - The place has potential to be bigger.

    Cons

    - security management have no concept of how to properly handle situations or how to balance a budget (e.g, ran out of first aid supply's and was not replenished because it didn't fit into budget) despite the new management being all ex police officers of +50 years of experience combined. For further example, I was given direction from security management the day a neighbouring casino was robbed, that if I or anyone else believed I had spotted the robber running down the main hall way was, and I quote directly from the assistant sec manager "if you see him, try to stop him, ask him how his day is going. Keep him occupied and the police may be able to get here in time." - upper management is too afraid to spend money to make money. - staff get overworked. ASM usually pulling 18+ hour shifts, plus they operate on a 2 guard (that's one supervisor and a guard) and one manager shifts which is illegal as per AGLC. And have been doing so since October 2014. - staff doubt the owners are informed as to how badly staff get treated. - medical problems (with all appropriate documentation from practitioner et al) are subject to being terminated - if you speak openly about managements blunders you will be terminated without cause, even after years of service. - high school politics sway management instead of facts. E.g. F&B manager had a staff member fired for harrasment with no proof other than unfounded rumours that the accused staff members management neglected to investigate.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, nice employees to work with.

    Cons

Upper management is nonexistent, when they do grace the floor with their presence does not acknowledge their staff unless your one of the privy few whom they have known "forever". Doesn't seem to care what is happening in the establishment as long as the bottom numbers look good.
