Best place to launch your career
Sep. 13, 2021 - Student Engineering Technologist in Calgary, ABRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Cenovus is hands-down the best place I've worked so far. The culture and work-life balance are amazing. Lots of growth opportunities and definitely the best place to start a career. The student and new grad program are really hands-on, you get to take lead on exciting projects.
Cons
None I can think of
- Former Contractor, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
As in all places, there are some great people here who are good to work with
Cons
No accountability of leaders. Actively discourages workers from moving to different/better positions within the company. Contract vs. employee results in a caste system mentality. Push much more complicated and accountable roles on lower level employees without change in title or increasing compensation. Work/Life Balance is something they love to talk about on paper, but not effort is made to improve in this area. Same goes for safety - They have some of the best safety paperwork in the business, but a terrible safety culture.

Great Place to Work

Good work life balance and the people.
Cons
Work on a project then management wants to go down a different path. They need to follow things through till the end. Then do a review to see if it was the out come they'd hoped for.

Cons
Work life balance while working away from home

Pros
Pay rates are higher than other industries, Decent work/life balance compared to other places I have worked. Free drinks in the kitchen (although that will likely be the next thing to get axed).
Cons
Scaled back the benefits such as Fridays off, even though we worked extra time (8.75 hours a day) to earn all of them. Vision and leadership is severely lacking at all managerial levels and they don't "walk the talk". Promotions of people who shouldn't be managers - either too young or else are friends with the hiring managers. Opportunities to move into other positions are limited unless you play the political game and know people.
