Pros
Good work life balance Pay is great
Cons
Old boys club, several promotions due to nepotism

Pros
Great people to work with until you get to Field Manager level and up.
Cons
Old boys club, no minority personnel from leads up at site facilities, employees are just a number and this gets worst the bigger they get, they preach safety but actions speak differently, continuous lay offs, always in a state of change, no room for progression, pompous field managers, promotions given to personnel who have others do their work, used to be a great company. Was a career now its just a job!

Pros
Everyone stays here because of ; good pay, 2 fridays off a month , vacation time based on age
Cons
They preach "one Cenovus" as the company motto, however if you're in the conventional O&G group there is no comparison to working in the oil sands group. Complete lack of parity. There are people in oil sands management with less than 10 years experience. Hence there is the old boys club, favouritism, and office politics are rampant. In Conventional there is little to no chance of promotion as they have made it clear that all the assets are available for sale given the right price. Management in Conventional are out for themselves 1st and foremost and are not inclined to listen to their subordinates. Speaking out or challenging systems will put a bulls-eye on your back. Development plans are a piece of paper that don't even make their way onto a database or HR. The only way to survive at this company is to get into the Oil sands group and try to climb over everyone else's back to get promoted. Once in the group they see how many managers and directors there are without significant years of experience and then look for the promotions to happen to themselves. There are far too many people at this company with titles that far exceed their experience or capabilities.

Pros
Used to be lots of potential for growth. The pay is still good even with the cuts to allowances. Safety is a higher priority here than previous employers.
Cons
Old boys club in management that seems to continually make and change rules for no other reason than to feel powerful. If you disagree with management you will be actively held back from advancing or simply demoted. When I got here they bragged about how there was almost zero attrition, now it's like they are doing their best to force people to quit. Any type of memo or info on the reorganization should just be ignored, as should any timeline about it because management doesn't meet their own deadlines anyways. management flew out to tell us how they were building a new ops camp but a couple months later we get told that'll never happen and that we're moving to a different camp with even smaller rooms instead.

Going downhill - not good anymore

Every other Friday off Juice in the kitchens Pay and benefits comparable to other competitors
Cons
Nepotism very much alive here. Stock price continues to decline. Management not skilled in managing downturns - company too young. The amount of spending by this company is unsustainable. Management leans towards hiring friends, not those best qualified. Old boys club in play - women largely disadvantaged and hardly promoted. If you are not part of it - this will be reflected in your lack of progression, and lack of bonus compared to the old boys. The offices likely to be as empty as EnCana's soon - things can and do change quickly, the Cenovus ego is large. You quickly realize it is no better than any competitor out there

Pros
Comparable pay and benefits with its peers.
Cons
Top heavy management with no leadership. Managers and VP's from other organizations parachuted in as "axe men" lends itself to a toxic workplace, everyone in my department is on edge waiting for the other shoe to drop. Hidden agendas, lack of clarity, and extremely poor leadership makes for a lot of head scratching. Oh and by the way, the good - ol' boys club is very alive and well at Cenovus. If your not a member your in for some tough slugging.

Pros
Good pay Getting a new CEO finally
Cons
Horrible management. Huge old boys club in CONG that should have been let go during layoffs Impossible to progress in the company unless you brown nose to the right people Middle management not engaged and only office people Zero accountability Hardworking people get taken advantage of and all the dead weight get away with slacking Middle management needs to stop lying and tell the truth and quit hiding things Too much politics Morale is terrible and management does not seem to care. Considered a problem of giving honest and open feedback as no one wants to hear the truth

There are absolutely no pros to working at this company.
Cons
I've been working at Cenovus for a few years and take heed, don't become a Cenovoslave! - Management is very poor at all levels. - Definitely a 'boys club. - The HR department lacks any form of HR qualities. - All reviews that are good are done by the HR department trying to save their reputation. - New CEO is in over his head.

Pros
Great people at the working level. So many people below the management level committed to making this a successful company.
Cons
Old boys club runs middle and upper management. People are kept based on how well they sell themselves upwards, not on actual delivery or performance. Top heavy organization that takes far too long to make a decision.
