I have been working at Cenovus full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Cenovus has a very comprehensive benefits program. A newly announced family leave program (11 weeks for birth mothers, 5 weeks for anyone else - including adoptive parents), excellent vacation (4 weeks at age 30, and grows to 6 weeks at age 60ish), Christmas is off, and then 13 flex days a year. It has a good bonus and LTI program, and offers opportunities to grow/learn.

The company has weathered the finanacial/low oil crisis and after paying down its debt is now getting back to a position where we can grow.

New leadership team is a lot better, and making a lot of positive change. Management has been consistently executing what they preach over the past 4 quarters, and the balance sheet has improved dramatically.

Cenovus has some of the best assets in the oil and gas industry. Much lower operating and capital costs, and lower GHG emissions than its peers.

    Cons

There’s been a lot of change. Management’s decision to acquire the FCCL assets (actually it was a belief we overpaid - most staff agreed with buying FCCL).

    Advice to Management

Continue paying down debt, and improve the balance sheet. Then we can begin to invest again.

I have been working at Cenovus full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This company has gone through a number of changes - much like every company in the energy industry - but these changes were much needed based on the level of entitlement and unreasonable expectations of employees who have been here since the company's split in 2009 (and before). The company has a lot of runway to work with, a good plan for execution and really good people who want to see it succeed. We have great salary and benefits and most of the people have the motivation to do a good job and make it a great place to work.

    Cons

There has been so much change and more to come that I believe it will take a little longer for things to settle down. Those who tend to complain are those who don't see what this company has to offer and probably have never worked anywhere else. Unfortunately it's their voices who are the only ones taking advantage of this platform.

    Advice to Management

Stick with it - there are enough people working for the company who support the direction we are on. Listen to their voices and not those of the nay-sayers.

I have been working at Cenovus full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Used to be good office and work environment but now we are all being treated like cattle into cubicle pens. I do like the ask Alex sessions as he does seem to answer questions unscripted which is refreshing.

    Cons

Oh where to start. Self serving VPs, HR, and Mgrs who look after themselves 1st and foremost. Layoffs layoffs and more layoffs. Over 6 rounds and not done yet. Employee morale is nonexistent except for the few chosen ones. Funny thing is everyone at this company knows what chosen ones mean as it’s prevalent through out the company. If you’re not a chosen one you go no where fast.

    Advice to Management

Skid all the upper CLT mgmt and start over. They have no experience outside Cenovus and so no bigger picture or fresh idea thinking. CEO needs to empty out our leadership team and start again. Without hiring internally, look outside the company. Look at it this way there’s no way a new mgmt team could do any worse.

Pay is ok by industry standards.

    Cons

    Poor management
    Cronyism
    Cubicle farms
    Lousy IT hardware and support
    No stock options
    PSU’s that never vest
    Leadership with limited experience

Lose about half the EVP’s, VP’s, Directors and Managers. Treat workers with respect. Provide some measure of job stability. Lose the idiotic concept of cubicle farms.

    Pros

Still pays well and there are good people at the front line working levels.

    Cons

Success is limited by inexperienced leaders and a culture of politics.

    Advice to Management

New executive but same old leaders at next layer below. Nothing is going to improve until we get qualified senior leaders at the EVP and VP levels, not the left over golfing buddies of board members.
