I have been working at Cenovus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Competetive salary, benefits, vacation time. Nice building and convenient work settings. Managers help create work life balance for employees.

    Cons

Some systems are a bit old creating unnecessary manual work

I have been working at Cenovus full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The people at the working level are nice and want to do a good job. The new building and crammed cubicles aren’t all that bad, it’s better than being unemployed. Alex is trying to do the right thing but he’s hampered by others in mgmt levels up and down the ranks. Q

    Cons

No raises for years and years but I suppose that’s the time we are in. Mgmt still has that you should be happy you have a job so shut up attitude. People are leaving on their own now vs layoffs. Not giving any exit interviews to find out why. My biggest issue is with the mgmt and how they have always looked after themselves at every level and how to get ahead vs any actually caring about their employees. They all have...

    Advice to Management

People leave because of their leaders so take a hard look at who is leaving and where. Some managers or group leads can’t be fixed so show some courage for once and address the poor leadership. But sadly you won’t.

    I worked at Cenovus full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, field location meant virtually no politics and less bureaucracy than in Calgary. Great work/life balance.

    Cons

CVE had an exceptional culture (in the conventional field sites) except when it came to safety. Safety was ruled by fear. God help you if there was a minor low potential near miss or incident onsite. Calgary upper management was coming at you with a vengeance. It was utterly disgusting. It created a culture of fear panic and resentment. Funny thing was, we used it as a learning and educational tool with all vendors and...

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach when it comes to how to treat colleagues and apply that to CVE's safety culture. Rather than ruling by fear, take a hint from field staff on how they RESPECTIVELY WORK TOGETHER with vendors to foster a positive safety culture.

I have been working at Cenovus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Amazing benefits and their vacation and compensation is more than generous! Consistent direction from the CEO and he is very involved in making himself visible and doesn’t just sit behind a desk giving direction. Great incentive program. Pays very well. Flexible work arrangements since we’ve gotten the tablets. Friendly environment to work in. Great office space at Brookfield, not sure why people are complaining?...

    Cons

Negative attitude of a lot of employees who have been here far too long and are so entitled it’s ridiculous. We need to get rid of these people who are bringing morale down, their adding no value to the company. It takes one bad seed to cause the good people to leave and bring a team down.

    Advice to Management

Pay close attention to the negative people and complaints. Morale of the company has just started to get better, people are excited to be working for Cenovus. Don’t keep people around just because they’ve been here for so long, even if you think they’re good at their job, which is just an illusion and you’ve been gullible enough to believe it. These are the type of people that hoard the work and makes themselves look...

I have been working at Cenovus full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Just for the sake of having a job nothing else

    Cons

Too much politics, too much conflict of interest. Employee evaluation is not based on your performance and more based on the relationship and not work-related stuff

    Advice to Management

Just have a third -party group to audit all the side project department managers giving to consulting companies outside the Cenovus. Those consulting companies which charge Cenovus a lot per hour are not chosen based on their performance and mostly based on the friendship with the Manager

I have been working at Cenovus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

In my opinion, it has definitely improved over the past year. I am happy with the new executive management as well as improved management at other levels of the organisation. I also feel that the strategy is more clear and focused now. I have found the company to be flexible with regards to working conditions as well.

    Cons

Most of the downsides could be facing other oil and gas companies at the moment with the challenges facing the industry. It can be difficult to get approval for projects (though not impossible if there is a good business case).
