True Canadian Company That Cares About Its People & Communities

Aug 1, 2020 - Associate Brand Manager in Toronto, ON

      Business Outlook

      Pros

-Positive, family-like culture -Great work-life balance -Lots of opportunities to move around between a wide range of functions -Increasingly progressive (leadership development programs, dress for your day, work-from-home once a week prior to COVID) -Inaugural Triangle Learning Academy program provides continued employee learning and development through speaker sessions, workshops, and access to online courseware

      Cons

-Total compensation can be lower at times -Hierarchical/bureaucratic + relationship-oriented culture can make it difficult to get things done without title or internal connections -Can be difficult to move up at times as there are no designated career progressions (you have to push your own agenda for a promotion or new role) -If you're working on the Canadian Tire Retail business it can be challenging at times working within a dealer business network as stores hold a lot of independence and collective decision-making power

      Pros

Good employee culture at lower level, can't say much about middle/upper management. Very good work-life balance Good pay and benefits

      Cons

Things move slowly, but expected of a large company Lots of grunt work, nothing too exciting or cutting edge - this could be a positive for others

      Pros

      • Looks good on resume, but not necessarily on portfolio • Some people are very nice • Good work-life balance

      Cons

      • Pay is low • Work is often monotonous • Lots of good ideas are dismissed due to legacy workflows & systems • Management is often cold and doesn't care about employees nearly as much as their own career growth • Office looks like it's stuck in the 1970s. Many promises for renovation that don't come through • Unorganized and devaluing of true talent • Delusional belief that they will be the "#1 retailer in Canada by 2022" without an actual plan to accomplish this goal
