      Pros

Fully Remote, choose your hours, above average pay for a call centre

      Cons

Little ability to be promoted based on any performance, politics and favoritism will trump this. No benefits, contract work. If you want to be an aid worker, there are much better organizations

      Pros

generally well-meaning, good people; good mission and value; decent volunteer culture; global organization with opportunities to travel within Canada; able to mobilize many people quickly

      Cons

Very low salary; no benefits or very few; high turnover; mostly short contracts; disorganized; many terrible people in positions of authority; bureaucratic and inefficient; lower level front-facing positions filled with whoever will take the job due to low salary; volunteer labour sometimes disrespected and abused; almost no advancement opportunities as people are kept on short contracts; useless HR (sorry, "People Services") department that makes terrible decisions, provides no support, and causes problems during crises; horrible interpersonal issues at every one of the 20 offices I've visited or worked at

Most people at CRC are overworked, stressed, and unmotivated

      Pros

The mission of the organization is great.

      Cons

CRC has a beautiful mission and attracts really great and dedicated staff. Unfortunately, it abuses people’s motivation and imposes on them horrible working conditions. Contracts are almost always temporary (3 months, 6 months…) until they are obliged by law to make you permanent. While a temp, you have almost no benefits at all (incl. no pension contributions). People are forced to do overtime and they are expected to not declare them. Salaries are much below the average in the not-for-profit sector. Even when one has stood with them long enough to become permanent, they only offer 6-month mat leave and zero top-up. Internal processes are a mess and it’s a highly bureaucratic organization, meaning that a lot of workarounds are needed, systems are inefficient, and everything works at an incredibly slow pace. In an environment where quick action is needed, it is the employees that pay the price: most people are overworked, stressed, and unmotivated. HR is not helpful at all in solving conflicts and tends to either ignore that a problem exists, or make them even worse. The turnover is very high, and often that leads to a huge loss of institutional memory, making it harder for new staff's onboarding. It’s a pity, because the mission of the organization is great.
