I have been working at Canada Revenue Agency full-time

    Pros

Work / life balance. Can’t think of any others.

    Cons

Pay is low compared to comparable professionals in private sector. Difficult to move up (specific to the GTA-Ottawa and Prairies seem to promote from within)

I have been working at Canada Revenue Agency part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great work environment
People are very nice and supportive
    Easy going work culture
    Work/Life balance is great
Overtime pay is awesome (1.5x for 1st rest day, 2.0 for second rest day)

    Cons

No private sector like benefits (i.e. cellphone, discounted food, coffee, lunch etc.)
Technology is outdated but they are trying to pick up the pace
The Pacific Region (BC and Alberta) is not good for IT positions including Software Development since there are no senior positions available. You will stay stuck as CS-01 forever and maybe if you're lucky move to CS-02.

    Advice to Management

Make new Software Developer positions in the Pacific Region.

I have been working at Canada Revenue Agency full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It seems to be an exciting environment to work in. Whenever I needed assistance from Canada Revenue Agency it was very pleasant speaking to the representative about my inquiries.

    Cons

Never came across any downsides speaking to a representative.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great positive service.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Canada Revenue Agency full-time

    Pros

Time off and paid designations (which you don’t really use the skills gained at CRA); but this time off is really a benefit for lazy employees or non career oriented tax professionals. Non designated accountants getting promoted is a laughable practice.

    Cons

Ridiculous inconsistency of management professionalism. Lack of any competent management was my experience mostly. Jealousy is rampant within audit group. Drive to hit targets/learnn isn’t promoted.

    Advice to Management

Get with the real business world and talk to your employees. Low morale in Calgary in the 2015-2019 period worked!
