Pros
There are smart and passionate people who work here. If you want to be challenged and learn about the corporate world, this is a great place to gain experience.
Cons
Don’t forgot you are nothing but a number here who contributes to the bottom line. After 20 years, I left this company because of better opportunities elsewhere which included better pay, work-life balance and less cut-throat culture. Canada Life doesn’t reward long standing employees by developing them and paying industry rates for their experience, but instead looks for outside talent to fill new roles (for more money) to show their board and executive leaders that they are being “innovative” by bringing in fresh talent, even when these skills exist internally.

Worst job i've ever had
Sep. 5, 2021 - Disability Case Manager in Vancouver, BCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- salary is decent, although not when you consider the amount of work expected of you and the unpaid overtime you will be expected to do.
Cons
- Terrible work life balance especially when starting on the team, unable to take annual leave. When provincial holidays/ annual leave are taken employees must complete work for the absent period. - Poor management - Poor annual leave - Poor team integration - Terrible support team - finance team / admin team

Will work you hard
Dec. 31, 2020 - Team Leader/Specialist in London, ONRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good compensation, vacation and benefits/ pension. I stay for the money. Seems like a company that is trying to do the right thing.
Cons
Not great at work life balance. I think this really depends where you work. Some jobs are crushing while others seem ok. Internal recruiting is a joke. Never take transferable skills into account. It depends on who you know and leaving recruitment to the hiring manager is a big mistake. “Talent acquisition” are not great at fleshing out well...talent. Rarely is performance taking into account, how do they assess applicants? I am not the only one who feels this way. It is who you know. I was dying to excuse myself mid interview when I was asked to recount an embarrassing moment...this was for an asst mgr job! Technology is so far behind that it is hard to catch up.

Pros
Decent work life balance, pay is reasonable and typically you work as part of a great team
Cons
Constant changes, no job security, clearly shareholders are the only important people.

At Canada Life we’re committed to providing an inclusive and safe environment, where all employees feel valued, respected and heard. Our aim is to maintain a diverse culture that promotes an equitable workplace, including diversity of ideas, approaches, disciplines and learning. We’ve recently taken a stronger stance toward increasing representation on our Board and within Senior Management. We’re confident we’re taking the right steps towards increasing diversity and fostering a culture that is inclusive for all and truly reflects Canada’s diverse population. Inclusivity, respect and integrity are core to who we are . When organizational changes impact the roles, our top priority is to treat each employee fairly and respectfully, and we work hard to balance organizational transparency with respect for individual privacy.
