I have been working at Canada Drives full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Awesome Team: This is the first company I ever worked at where the CEO, Cody Green and VP of Technology, Rick Dhami cares about me on a personal level. I come into work everyday stressed free, not due to lack of work or the intensity of the work, but because I know I'm work with most supportive co-workers and managements I can have. Projects and Freedom: I've worked on a number of projects at Canada Drives and my favourite part, has to be the freedom and trust granted to approach each project. I never felt like a code monkey and my ideas and concerns were always heard. Even when I had project ideas of my own, I could easily approach Cody to voice them freely. Great Benefits: We get pretty good medical coverage as well as breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Fully paid compass cards and travel. There's a lot of event planners doing yoga sessions, outings, and various other activities on regular basis. A small but dedicated and hard working team just went to Montreal to watch the Grand Prix F1 race! But I think above all, they compensate your hard work and loyalty greatly. I've had a 100% pay raise since I've started working here, over the span of 3 years, I don't think many people can say that.

    Cons

No Remote Work: It's hard to push for remote accessibility when we deal with sensitive data, and when we all live in the greater Vancouver area. Longer Hours: I did sign up for this, but 9 hours work days do get a bit tiring. Long Commute: This doesn't apply for everyone, but it takes me an hour everyday to get to downtown, and another hour to get home. Cramped: There's just a lot of people in the office, does feel a bit cramped at times, and harder to find seating in kitchen during lunch hours. I've actually started having lunch at odd hours (11:30 or 13:00) to avoid the lunch rush. Lack of Process: This is actually getting addressed, the company kind of grew out of the startup phase and we don't have much training and processes to support it.

Thank you for sharing your experiences working at Canada Drives. I’m really happy that you recognize your contributions to the company and never feel like a “code monkey”. We are excited about the opportunities and growth ahead for the company and the opportunities for professional advancement these will bring for everyone on the team. I definitely appreciate the challenges of commuting each day and I hope you appreciate when you’re tackling ambitious projects the advantages of having all the smart people in the same room : ) For the IT department we hope the implementation of core hours (flexible start / stop times) has given you some extra flexibility. Thanks for recognizing the progress we're making in structure and process and for being a part of that journey.

I worked at Canada Drives full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Great place to work.

    Cons

This is definitely not a good place for the people who have prior experience working in good IT companies. They definitely don't know how an IT company works. They are good in Sales and Marketing for sure. They should stop promoting inexperienced people to the experienced roles. But an IT professional cant be treated with the same work culture. This is because the people who are leading the team don't have any prior experience. This is what happens when a customer support guys are promoted and put to lead bunch of experienced It professionals.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I’m glad to hear it was a great place to work and we appreciate the compliments on our Sales and Marketing teams. That said, we’re disappointed you didn’t feel the management in IT provided you the right framework to be successful. We take all feedback both positive and negative very seriously and try to take a hard look in the mirror when we’re told we’re not making the grade. Although we don’t agree with your sentiment, we do sincerely appreciate the feedback as it reflects your personal experience. We are happy to share some exciting changes being made in the IT department. While in the past our Salesforce Development teams and our Non-Salesforce Development teams have operated in their own silos - we recently started a full integration of the two departments. We believe this will have the lasting impact of bringing creative and exceptional programmers together to tackle exciting projects. This also allows us to lean on the years of experience from the management and leaders within both departments. We believe this combined with better visibility into our company’s product and expansion roadmap will make Canada Drives an exciting place to work for years to come.

I have been working at Canada Drives full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Canada Drives has a very friendly and quiet work space for developers. They encourage you to do your best with little micro-management. Things can get busy now and then, but it's pretty manageable and nobody is breathing down your neck. If there does happen to be downtime, developers are encouraged to learn new tools and approaches that will help our team in the future. The company even offers to pay for online video courses (think Udemy) if they are relevant to your position. Free food for breakfast / lunch, is a plus. Beer Fridays are a nice way to relax unwind after a busy week.

    Cons

Currently, there aren't many set coding standards. This means that code can look quite different from developer to developer. However, we are starting to do more code reviews, so this should be less of a problem in the future.

I have been working at Canada Drives full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people who work here are some of the best I've worked with, everyone has a mutual respect and understanding for each other. There's no yelling at people who make mistakes because we all know it's a great gig we got and everyone's doing their best to push the company forward. We grow as a team and advance as one. No micro-management! do your job and no one's going to breathe down your neck while you work. My previous company had my boss constantly asking me for updates. Everyone understands there are deadlines and objectives to accomplish, but management tries their hardest to let you do your work in peace.

    Cons

People walk around too much when they're on their phone with clients. Kitchens are common resting area, I don't want to have to stop my conversation with someone during my lunch hours when jerks walks in doing exactly that. JERKS!

Hi! Thanks for this review! I know with the smaller office and smaller kitchen things were getting way to cramped! But with the new space we're excited to have everyone on the new floor and have designed the kitchen space to be open, free of people on the phone with their clients, and more tables and chairs that allow you to enjoy conversations with your colleagues. Hopefully you're enjoying it!
