Pros
-amazing kids (nothing to do with the cbe though as most of these kids have no choice but to go to these schools) -job security -benefits -some really cool colleagues
Cons
-most administrators actually have no idea what's going on and are simply in their positions because they are former teachers who want to move out of the classroom to have comfortable wellpaid jobs either in a principal's office or the head office -the board and admin are stuck in the old mentality thinking that people are desperate to become teachers and that they will always have people begging for jobs at their schools - completely disconnected from reality that there is a teacher shortage and teachers are leaving their schools in droves

Impossible to get on full-time (unfair hiring process) better luck buying a lotto ticket
Apr 12, 2023 - Admin/Secretary in Calgary, ABRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Variety of schools to work.
Cons
Pretty much impossible to get on full-time. Casual employees not actually considered an employee, even though you do get an employee number but guess NOT the employee number to get you a job. Pay is fine. Some school staff are rude and ignorant. No manuals left for covering some positions as stated there should be at schools. You don't get enough access in order to make a different, you just get jobs that one can do in a day...attendance line, entering teacher schedules, answering phone and dealing with some students....and that is it! Nothing that takes all the "skills" they are looking for, anyone can do these jobs!

Job changes depending on Administration
Mar 20, 2023 - Education Assistant in Calgary, ABRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Fair pay, no weekend work, summers off, benefits
Cons
Support when something happens depends very much on who your administration team is, no real job description as most of the job falls under “other related duties”, violence and physical abuse from some students, lack of respect from many teachers, no path for promotion and no acknowledgement of additional skills . A distraction makes or breaks the job and your job depends on the funding they decide to apply to your job. No real job security because you can be bumped if a more senior employee gets laid off. Don’t get too comfortable at a school in your first 10 years on the job!

Many great teachers and some good students.

Pros
Working with bright minds was a hell of a great experience. I loved working with students and showing them how amazing our world is.
Cons
Competence is not a value that the board supports. It is a broken system that supports no one.
