    I worked at CIBC

    Pros

Great place to learn and grow until you reach a certain level. Good people and culture if you fit in with them.

    Cons

The performance scale is incredibly biased and exceeds one year is meet the next just to prevent better increases and promotions due to budget constraints from above. Managers don't know what you do and don't properly manage talent thus leaving high performers under utilized.

    I worked at CIBC

    Pros

It's a job. If you need one, they're always hiring due to high turnover.

    Cons

    - if you want to know what it's like to be managed by the blind, apply here. - depending on which sub-group you work for, management can be really horrible. - do not take a job in the data management / quality assurance team (you've been warned). - morale is low. Workers are miserable. Nice people, but very miserable. - HR doesn't seem to do a good job in screening for good people managers. As a result, the workers are miserable from the lack of appreciation and professionalism that middle mgmt has shown. - look at other bank reviews by employees and you won't see nearly as much negative sentiment as you do with cibc. - consider this review a favour to all who are thinking of applying. You're welcome.

I have been working at CIBC full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Friendly colleagues, close proximity to grand central

    Cons

Compensation is far below market and benefits are worse than other banks with operations in the US (poor 401k match, expensive insurance, etc..). Base salary is unchanged from 10 years ago and there are no annual increases, even for the top achievers. Bonuses increase, but are still 15 - 20% below market. Work life balance has decreased as the bank tries to grow in the US without hiring additional people, but refuses to compensate anyone for the increase in workload and deal flow. Management refuses to listen to anyone's advice and chooses to keep their heads in the echo chamber that consists of out of touch, old-school Canadian executives. Supposedly CIBC's goal is to grow in the US; however, poor acquisitions and complete neglect for their capital markets business will make that pretty difficult.
