I have been working at CIBC World Markets full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent salary and people are pretty nice. Stable job

    Cons

Long hours Don't learn much A lot of older higher ranking employees that seem to be promoted based on just time with firm A lot of young people seem to be leaving for other banks which is problematic and makes me wonder what others offer. No real career growth, just title inflation as time progresses and salary raise over time.

I have been working at CIBC World Markets full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good exposure to senior management. Progress in the role really depends on how supportive your manager is. If they support you then you go places. If not I've seen people being stuck in the same role for years

    Cons

Fast paced environment can lead to long hours, depending on project

I have been working at CIBC World Markets

    Pros

Many growth opportunities Many benefits such as health insurance, share purchase plan! Motivating companies to work for and very focused on client experience

    Cons

Long hours. Sometimes they hire terrible people to fill quotas which I find is a big waste of money and time for the bank and people working with then

I worked at CIBC World Markets full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Its a good place to learn to manage and run your transactions almost as if its your own business - it gives you an insight into Entrepreneurship. I was able to do things my own way close deals the ay i saw fit obviously the realm of company policy. Its also a very relaxed and friendly environment. I was part of the real estate finance group in NY city, which is a very small neat bunch. Great benefits. Good compensation. The harder you worked the more money you made.

    Cons

Diversity, Long hours, working weekends and late into the night (1am). - its banking so you should expect it. Time off - 4 weeks for associates and above and 3 weeks for analysts and administration staff. Promotions - It was not very clear how promotion was achieved, except that it was your manager and other MDs that agreed based on your performance and how you worked with everyone else.
