    Cons

Too political and no sense of direction from top down. Any appointment/promotion above ED level is 101% political.

I have been working at CIBC World Markets full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Some good people, senior bankers etc.

    Cons

Management is lost, directionless and are too focused on the old boys club and protecting each other than they are of winning. This is evidenced by CIBC WM's rapid decline in the league tables in Canada over the last 4-5 years. Having been around through the management changes I can see why. Alot of people have been let go who were terrific employees, great leaders, and at a more senior level deal makers. People at the senior levels who are part of the 'inner circle' are more yes men. There are literally some md's here who have not brought in deals for years, yet are still employed. Many of the mid to junior staff are simply waiting for the markets to improve to bail. Not a meritocracy at all. More political that merit driven. And from my discussions with friends at other Canadian banks the worst of the bunch.

cibc trains people well, but they have a hard time keeping talent. Either they don't pay enough or they don't provide the right opportunities.
