I worked at Boots Opticians full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are opportunities to transfer or progress between Boots Opticians and main store. Offside training is provided and the package of benefits, including staff discounts, is generally very good.

    Cons

Do your research before applying or accepting a job offer. There is high staff turnover problem (see www.boots.jobs for the number of roles advertised) and the absence of a permanent manager in some stores, so if you are applying to work in a store with either or both of these issues, then you are likely to run into problems very quickly. Be under no illusion about working in optics. There is a lot to learn so it should not be seen as an easy option or a stop gap until something else comes along. Be mindful that the next patient who comes through the door may have a serious eye problem and possibly won’t know, and you may be the first person they encounter. Effectively, they and their eyes are in your hands.

I worked at Boots Opticians full-time for less than a year

    Pros

In store team very good. Discount card for Boots. Boots annual benefits box.

    Cons

Dishonest upper management team. Head office communications terrible, especially relating to lockdown and covid safety. Company shows little respect for staff, planned restructure of management April 2020 kept secret until furlough scheme reduced. Redundancies issued to staff that had been assisting the covid testing, and then internal jobs withheld by management until they had accepted severance. Unfair treatment to staff In terms of working hours, locations and favouratism.

I have been working at Boots Opticians full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nothing, some people on the shopfloor team are nice but that's it

    Cons

It seems like whoever makes the decisions doesn't think things through as they keep going back and forth in what they're saying. They closed all these stores and made so many redundancies the past few months, a lot of the teams were already understaffed and overworked, and this resulted into being even more overworked and short staffed. They say one thing at one moment and then last minute they change their mind. It's so confusing and makes the job of the people who actually work on the shopfloor even harder because they have to fix corporates' mistakes.
