I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - ok salary for management
    - reasonable benefits
    - convenient location

    Cons

    - work life balance not prioritized
    - micromanagement - even managers and directors not empowered to make decisions and be autonomous
    - very slow to react and make decisions and then actual work is always rushed
    - very little opportunity for strategic development
    - treated as just another resource - not encouraged to develop
    - extremely understaffed
    - very limited advancement opportunities
    - constant turnover
    - old traditional culture that no one under 50 can align with

    Advice to Management

    - be consistent with 2 work from home days across all departments to encourage work life flexibility
    - encourage development and open more opportunities
    - stop being so resistant to change and so traditional
    - engage with Plans more to understand the market and needs - not just enforcing outdated policies, in order to actually drive value
