      Pros

      - Great team to work with - Integral part of the business - everything runs through product! - Great work/life balance - Good training for any business type roles

      Cons

      - Limited opportunity for promotions within the Product team - Relatively slow-paced environment - Not a very agile work environment - little room for product experimentation as budgets are hard set every year

Bell IoT- Lacking vision, strategy changes on whim, inexperience shows from day one

Jul 1, 2021 - Senior Architect in Mississauga, ON

      Business Outlook

      Pros

People are generally good and want to succeed. However, lack of exposure to software development best practices at all levels (from the very top to those working below them) shows in all teams. The only happy people that I saw there were those who knew 'how to coast' by not doing great work and not taking any responsibility.

      Cons

      - Highly political, promotions are given to people who are in the good books of senior management and not necessarily the best for the job - Senior management has little to no knowledge on how to build truly scalable digital products that customers would use - No long-term customers - Little to no confidence in product managers who have never led digital products in the past - Highly siloed. A 'wanna-be' agile team that cannot escape the age-old waterfall thinking of its parent - High turnover - all good employees leave within 2 years to better/greener pastures. The ones that are left lower the bar and constantly blame the org for lack of training opportunities - High contractor/ FTE ratio - Very little market penetration

Long hours, average pay, poor leadership practices & culture

Jun 26, 2021 - Specialist, Customer Marketing in Toronto, ON
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - You don't need lots of relevant experience to join the team (Managers train you up) - Good projects and cross-functional leadership opportunities - Challenging work environment

      Cons

      - Lots of turnover - Poor culture (long hours, competitive and stressful, big focus on projects over people, serious vibe, old school leadership practices) - Compensation is very average - If a Manager doesn't like you, you get limited visibility & opportunities to grow - No separate salary band for experienced professionals (new grads come in as specialists) - Poor leadership: management engages in a lot of credit stealing, command and control leadership style, expect to be micromanaged and ignored for your contributions in meetings

Great Company, experience varies by business unit

Jul 4, 2021 - Program Manager in Toronto, ON

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The leadership and company culture are great. The company puts a lot of effort into keeping employees engaged and provide development if you are looking for it.

      Cons

Large corporate company. Bell has a tendency to overbake development prior to promoting individuals. Internal opportunity comes via lateral moves in business units, there is limited opportunity for upward progression. HR policy is very cagey, and clearly puts the companies interest first.
