I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Super smart, talented, supportive culture. Traveling = perk of airline and hotel status, great for personal trips.

    Cons

Travel meant weekday "norm" of working until 10pm. Hard to build community at home.

I worked at Bain & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - World-class training
    - Great exposure to professional experiences which will open doors to "the next job" post-Bain
    - Relatively high compensation

    Cons

    - Work/life balance can be terrible
    - Tendency for managers to attribute challenges in case to subordinates' performance, rather than poor scoping or direction
    - Bizarre culture - feels like somewhere between a church group and a cult
    - Highly political - severely undermines supposed meritocracy
    - Lack of transparency for HR matters

    Pros

Culture, Office environment, Fun, Demanding, Learning

    Cons

Lifestyle is very bad and it does not improve even after efforts from leadership. You can't make short term plans as there is a lot of uncertainty.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As a recent college graduate, there's not a better place to be after graduation. The exposure to senior clients, Bain partners, and the ability to influence the case "answer" from Day 1 on the job is truly unparalleled

    Cons

Sustainability can be challenging as in any consulting/professional services company. Bain does a good job of proactively managing this through weekly team "temp check" surveys, clearly outlining personal sustainability goals, and flexible work programs

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in your SACs and focus on accelerated direct promotion paths through to CTL/Manager

It's great to hear that working here has been an unparalleled experience. As you noted, we take sustainability seriously and continue to improve upon our programs. I'm glad to know the weekly pulse... More

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Almost all the work I do is obviously important to the Managers and Partners I work with at Bain, and our clients
-The teams I've been on have created positive change, and the work I've done was important to the team's overall effort, even when I was the most junior person on the team
    - The senior folks authentically care about me and my peers. There are a half a dozen people in particular that I've met through my work on different case teams that I could go to for anything - a chat about big picture career stuff, trouble with a supervisor or supervisee, just to catch up.
-There's a lot of formal training, and it's not boring. Most of it has actually made me better at my job at Bain, but it's pretty obvious how it would be helpful to me if I were working somewhere else to (analytics, effective communication in different contexts, how to tackle an ambiguous problem in a structure way, planning work, managing upward, motivating and teaching people that report to you, etc.)
    - Compensation and exit opportunities are great

    Cons

It's client services. Sometimes I work pretty late.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I firmly believe there is nowhere better to start your career than at Bain & Company. The learning is unparalleled, the firm is focused on strong mentorship and support throughout your career, and there are nearly limitless opportunities to make large impact on Bain's clients. Bain's clients are some of the most influential organizations in the world, and working here allows you a front seat view to those organizations' most pressing challenges.

    Cons

The pressure can be immense, and the hours long.

    Advice to Management

The benefits are great, but the pay does not quite match how hard we work.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Bain is an extremely people-oriented place, with a culture of honest feedback in all directions. The focus on professional development here is second to none, and has really helped me grow as a young professional just starting out in the workforce. I have gained so many mentors and friends in just 3 years here, and don't know anyone else who has that kind of culture at their job, in consulting or otherwise.

    Cons

Your experience can vary widely based on the managers you have; luckily, there is pretty good quality control, but sometimes you can end up working with someone who isn't good at prioritizing or has a tough management style. Those cases are always the hardest, and often lack work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Make sure that people promoted to leadership (manager, principal, partner) embody all of Bain's principles, and truly care about the team experience. Bain has done an amazing job with teams historically, and I hope that can continue even when the business is really busy.
