    - Great people and culture. Particularly in the Toronto office, it feels very close-knit.

    - Lack of clarity in staffing and opportunities to work in specific industries that you are interested in

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good comp, great people, and experience is as promised: fast-paced, high level problem solving, and fairly interesting challenges.

    Cons

Standard-issue work-life balance difficulties. Smaller offices mean that staffing cannot be as tailored to your preferences - this can be a source of major frustration.

    Pros

Really great people. I always feel inspired at Bain and get great proffessional development opportunities. We also get a lot of responsibility

    Cons

Work life balance can be an issue. Hard to know how tough a given week will be in advance so making social plan can be challenging.

    Advice to Management

Management has managed downturn really well. I would make a push to enter government space give their greater involvement in corporate america.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good exposure to a variety of industries
Can learn to understand how a business works very quickly
Learn to deliver in crunched situations
Gain confidence presenting before senior partners/clients
    Smart, motivated, friendly colleagues
    Great global trainings and offsites
Largely fair review system although much more socialist than BCG/Mck (% outperformers are much less compared to these firms)
    Airline miles and SPG points!

    Cons

Very demanding work hours (70 hour plus weeks are not uncommon, can go up to 100 in the worst case)
At any point, ~30% of the projects running in the office are mismanaged - leadership is such that is working on the industry for the first time and hence is clueless about what direction to steer the team in and the team ends up boiling the ocean. This is esp. the case in India where Bain is relatively new and does not have too many experienced partners
    Unpredictable, frequently changing priorities
Too many layers (AC, Consultant, Manager, Principal/Partner) - 4 layers above the juniormost person, each making suggestions and giving comments, leading to a lot of rework, esp. because there is no one right or fixed way to solve the project so every one tries to do "value add"
Limited opportunity to specialize in 1 industry or capability area in the first 5 years - so you remain a generalist for the first 5 years
No operational, hands-on experience - you only recommend, never implement
Too much focus on making slides look pretty instead of testing recommendations on practicality
No partners to look up to who are actual industry experts (very few industry experienced people, mostly consulting lifers at the senior levels)
Poor focus on work life balance (it is only talked about not much is done about it)

    Advice to Management

Focus on work life balance and allowing people to specialize from day 1
