Pros
Great culture and opportunities to develop
Cons
Field jobs require night shift work
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
Pay is good, SOME people are polite.
Cons
You are expected to work days, nights, and evenings throughout the year, in all kinds of weather. You may prepare yourself in ain anticipation a morning shift... You're all cozy and ready to go to bed, and suddenly you get a call to get to work because someone booked off sick. You're working, tired and dazed... 6 hours through your shift and you realize you're not even half way done. Any time you get a call, they can have you for 12 hours. Being up for 26 hours, with rain having soaked through your gear from being outside all night, not to mention how it goes sideways into your hood when you're riding moving equipment, and you finally get to leave. Nothing better than driving home in the morning rush with no sleep the night before. I don't see how this can be safe. Not to mention, any time employee morale shows signs of improvement, it is bashed by senior crews, who are all ready to retire, and would have found a different job if the railway was not the only thing they knew.

Pros
Pay is very good compared to the complexity of the job(s). People here seem to be more relaxed than other fortune 500's.
Cons
Can be dangerous at times. Even if you do your job right people can get seriously injured and worse. Job security is no longer a reality regardless of seniorty or position. Lots of creepy stuff.

Pros
Good pay and insurance did I mention good pay?
Cons
Not for people with families that you want to be home for. Other than that, it’s ok.

- Current Employee, more than 8 years★★★★★
Pros
Ability to advance within the company.
Cons
Corporate has too much control of the individual locations.
- Current Employee, more than 10 years★★★★★
Pros
This is a equal opportunity employer. You will receive on the job training. Comes with all the benefits a job should have.
Cons
The industry is hard! Newer employees will be laid of first, get worst schedules, & do bottom jobs. May even work on-call for a few years.

Pros
Good pay and lots of opportunities to advance
Cons
Low morale everywhere at all levels
- Former Employee, more than 10 years★★★★★
Pros
Pay is always on time
Cons
No sick days, vac time managed through corporate... Management is micro managed...can't even authorized days off at my location they have to call corporate. The railroad was once known for great benes and retirement...wages are not keeping up with the times. Been there 10 years and 1/3 way to retirement... They are giving sign on to new employees l, but no retention bonuses for those who've been there for years. Disappointed and leaving for this reason, as many have.
