I worked at BBC Worldwide full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Best benefits available today including great vacation. Great brand

    Cons

Nothing gets done. Never expect help after 5pm.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to fire lazy staff. Lazy staff are demotivating for those trying to contribute meaningful work.

I worked at BBC Worldwide full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Nicely designed office
    - Young, energetic employees
    - Opportunities for learning
    - Depending on the department, there is a lot of transparency between AMC-owned networks. Meaning tools and other employees were easily accessible.

    Cons

    - Great benefits (ie - healthcare, vacation time) were lost during transition to AMC
    - Departments that once operated freely became controlled by AMC. A lot of creative-thinking employees were forced out in favor of run-of-the-mill, corporate focused managers. Company dynamic changed.

    Advice to Management

It's been a few years since I left so perhaps the kinks have worked themselves out. Hopefully AMC-installed department heads have eased up and become less micro-managing over staffers.

    Pros

Great company. incredibly open environment, fun office activities, and very welcoming.

    Cons

As an intern, sometimes work was very slow but that was because they always had actual things to do.

    Advice to Management

    The Management is great!

I have been working at BBC Worldwide full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

To be part of the wider BBC is great. With BBC Worldwide you have the opportunity to play a part in distributing some wonderful titles around the world, and in doing so help to create better value for UK licence fee payers. It does feel like you're part of something larger.

The people here are generally friendly and collaborative.

It is possible to maintain a good work/life balance working here.

    Cons

Salary is low compared to wider industry, and BBCW seems determined to exploit people's enthusiasm for the cause in this regard despite consistent strong performance.

IT systems are ageing, unduly complex and disparate in many places. Attempts to improve and consolidate have had mixed results at best.

    Advice to Management

Do more to retain knowledgeable and enthusiastic long-serving staff - continuity of knowledge and experience has been lacking in and thus hindered past projects.

Recognise more the hard work happening in the less 'glamorous' areas of the company, which are integral to BBCW's success.

Improve transparency & consistency on hiring/promotion policy, as it can seem unfair and inconsistent at times.

    Pros

Flexible working hours, good offices and location. Some of the colleagues are really good and helpful. Brand value and content.

    Cons

    * Very political
    * Some people rise to "head" roles without even actually possessing the knowledge, they are in the position because of their disgusting political ability to influence people.
    * No one wants to be accountable for the work.
    * No leadership quality from people in head roles.
    * No clear direction, they just fluff.
    * Cannot I repeat CANNOT GROW in your career.
    * People in head roles even change your career path which you don't want do.

    Advice to Management

    * Please get leadership lessons.
    * Stop being political, think about your employees and allow them to grow, don't be so greedy.
