I have been working at Aspen Dental full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Motivating and inspiring culture to be a part of. Continued coaching and development from my director. Love growing relationships with my teams and doctors and watching them grow

    Cons

    Nothing I can think of

    Advice to Management

Don’t leave RMs out of the leadership retreats. We are the ones working day in and day out to grow these doctors and help them reach their potential. If an RM has a doctor attending the retreat then the RM should be there as well.

I have been working at Aspen Dental full-time

    Pros

Lots of perks if you're an OM, hygienist or a doctor.

    Cons

Overworked and underpaid, you work 41 hours a week but they don't want you to hit overtime. Makes no sense.

    Advice to Management

Instead of sending out all these little trinkets, use the 0.10 you just wasted and give it to the employees.

I have been working at Aspen Dental full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Experience in corporate dentistry, there really is nothing more that is positive to say. You will most likely leave within a year of your start date

    Cons

Pay, work life balance, time with patients, sales environment, staffing issues, turnover, constantly changing management. Lack of raises. Late nights, weekends, having to make up for time off...

    Advice to Management

This company started out as a good idea. Bob realized the market was there and he went after it. Dentists don’t want to be business managers. When it was the core group, it ran true and the mission was cohesive... that was around 600 practices ago. Now add investors, hungry for growth, corporate cronyism, poor marketing and owners disenchanted with the “new model”. The problem is, the dream is not what the model reflects today. C-suite knows this and if they really wanted to, they could pop in to any practice or any group of practices to see what today’s “right looks like”. Instead, visits are like presidential visits, groomed, calibrated and planned. VP’s tell them where to go, move people out of practices before their visit, NIMBYism at its’ corporate finest.
Associate dentists are told they will be mentored without enforcing current owners to do so and so many are left without support in their first year. Incentives are not standard across the board, owners can play with them at their whims. Turnover for DA’s is crazy and hygienists are constantly pushed to sell. If you work with a good owner, you will have a positive experience. If not, sorry! The winds are shifting. Millennials want a positive experience. If there isn’t a change, you will have a much more difficult time staffing offices. Visit any dental or hygiene school. They no longer preach no DSO’s but they still say no Aspen Dental. I hope you find your center again. The original dream was a good one. Your friends who are paid off in corporate dividends will never tell you this but it is true. You need to get back to basics and slow down and focus on your people.

I worked at Aspen Dental full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Experience, cheap dental work, networking, contests, self gratification

    Cons

Compensation, Benefits, Low Moral, pow self esteem, poor company structure, feminism

    Advice to Management

Too much to explain. The compensation for work completed is not at all liveable.

I worked at Aspen Dental full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You will learn a lot because you won’t be trained probably.
You will become an independent leader because they will not support you.
It is great experience for those looking to move up quickly.

    Cons

As a RM you will be asked to do things that the company says not to do but your Directors and VPs will still make you do it like instructing Doctors and reprimanding then.
    No work life balance.
They will take all of your positive energy and burn you out and force you out.

    Advice to Management

Don’t talk about people as chess pieces. See them as humans and people who have needs too.

I worked at Aspen Dental full-time

    Pros

In most offices the free dental work is a plus.

    Cons

Everthing from managers to staff. Management has no respect for the ones who actually do the work.
