I worked at Apotex full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employee focused employer. Good Benefits. Strong employee commaraderie. Opportunities for training to move up within departments. Some non-management levels are 'at' or slightly below market. Open door policy with management. Good Employee Services. Strong values Collaboration, Courage, Compassion, and Perseverance. Solid on-the-job training for new roles.

    Cons

Various management personalities not ideal for employees' morale. High-stress levels due to company restructuring. Interview process very slow (at times negligent at keeping candidates information. Management and employees often feel disconnected.

    Advice to Management

Take a second look at employees who are proactive in taking different hats and recognize the areas that are spread too thin (resources in several areas need to "man-up" if the company keeps expecting the same productivity and service when it down-sizes every 5 years.

I have been working at Apotex full-time

    Pros

Perkopokis discounts and closeness to Costco

    Cons

Incompetent leadership who retained their positions by either being related to or “buddies” with someone high up.
Women are disrespected and for the longest time were not permitted to be promoted to VP. Favorititsm precedes merit. Dead weight is rewarded for loyalty and high performers get awarded with more work. Desperate at holding people from leaving as turnover skyrocketed. Don’t waste your time at this dying company unless you enjoy working 70 hours per week while being paid for 40.

I worked at Apotex full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots to learn if you are willing to. Fully electronic sites operated using multiple sophisticated data systems. Leave behind the hassle of paper documentation (most of the time). Competitive health benefits and fair vacation/time-off policy.

    Cons

Shift work for some positions is not worth it. It may takes 5 years of waiting just to get an afternoon shift. Like many (if not all) large corporate, there are politics, bureaucracy, ineffective management with their questionable promotion/business decisions. Like many other company, work-life balance may be off (even if it's day shift) at times, when you are occasionally forced to overwork even if not explicitly asked to.

    Advice to Management

Consider recognizing and rewarding valuable employees sooner and better. It's such a pity to see them go.
