I worked at American Legion Auxiliary full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Employees can sometimes assist veterans and their families. They provide free coffee and a small Christmas bonus each year ($50-$75). Health insurance is sometimes an option. They also provide some paid time off.

    Cons

The pay is poor and it has become a very negative work environment. Not everyone is treated fairly. They are also supposed to deposit 2% of gross wages into a retirement account but have not done so in months. Current leadership is not living up to the ideals of the national organization.

    Advice to Management

If you want to prevent lawsuits, you should treat all your employees fairly.

I worked at American Legion Auxiliary part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pride of the Military Men and Woman, The Culture of traditions. The many amazing men and women that Volunteer their time, support and talents for our Veterans and families and Active Service women and men. Our American History in Pride of our Country.

    Cons

Management can severely change the attitude and strength of Office. Support for the position can some times be stressfull and extremely exciting at the same time. Heart ache when you visit some of our Vets that are homeless or in severe medical conditions from war.

    Advice to Management

Remember that those who work for you do so because of their dedication to the American Legion and our Service Men and Women. It is not just a job but a cause and passion. Allow yourself to lean on the wonderful men and women around you to use their talents.

I worked at American Legion Auxiliary full-time

    Pros

I really enjoyed being a VISTA here, the people you work with are awesome and the work that you do was very rewarding

    Cons

The only con, if you can call it that, is that it is a nationwide organization so there are many new names to learn and you will never meet everyone

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work for our veterans, service members and their families. You do amazing work.
