I worked at American Apparel full-time

    Pros

Met and worked with so many creative people. There was a high learning curve, open to new ideas, great team atmosphere

    Cons

There were many days with long hours. A lot of turn over not enough training and support, sometimes drama by younger staff.

    Advice to Management

it would be great to implement new staff training programs, keep a high quality product made in the usa, and strong team spirit!

I worked at American Apparel (More than a year)

    Pros

Super relaxed environment, probably the easiest place that I will ever work at. Free clothes every season, nice discount, close knit staff.

    Cons

Lack of hours + sometimes I would be the only person working in the entire store.

    Advice to Management

Schedule more than two people during peak times.

I worked at American Apparel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

At store level, the majority of associates were great people and became good friends.

    Cons

Higher level management were largely unsupportive, rude, irrational & in all honesty, poor managers. They spoke down to anybody under their pay grade and had little regard for basic social etiquette. Very much a "who you know, not what you know" kind of company.

    Advice to Management

Company went down in flames due in large part to terrible decision making at the highest levels. Got what they deserved.

Take the time to make sure your employees are fully trained and confident to do the job. A new but competant employee shouldn't have to continually ask for training from their supervisors.
