Company is financially very strong. It is in a market where there are only 2 players and extremely hard to get in.

Doesn't RecommendNeutral OutlookDisapproves of CEOI worked at Altera full-time for more than 3 years
Pros
Bright, hardworking people. Good pay and benefits. Nice campus, gym, cafeteria. Interesting technology.
Cons
Senior management views individual contributors as labor that must be constantly pushed, not as highly trustworthy sources of creative solutions. Decisions are decreed without much consultation with persons affected. VP power struggles and constant re-orgs leave engineers feeling they have little control over their work.

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookDisapproves of CEOI worked at Altera full-time for more than 8 years
Pros
I am not sure if there are any now. Started of long time ago and used to enjoy the place.
Cons
Senior management made poor decisions 4-5 years ago and have since hiding their missteps thru constant reorgs and layoffs. No accountability of decisions made by executive management. Used to be solid number two FPGA company and is on the verge of becoming a me too FPGA provide along with Microsemi and quick logic. Too many "yes sirs" with little to no technical insight among middle managers.

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookNo Opinion of CEOI have been working at Altera full-time
Pros
Helpful and friendly colleagues, teamwork among engineers are great. leading technology (but not leading methodology..)
Cons
too much politics. managements are very forgiving/generous to those who knows how to "socialize". lack of transparency during information pass down from SJ site to Pg site, from senior management to engineers. only info that the managers deemed necessary-to-know will be fed to engineers. very slow career development.

"Slowly circling the drain-hole of mediocrity"

- Senior Management★★★★★
Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookNo Opinion of CEOI worked at Altera full-time for more than 5 years
Pros
Good pay if your manager likes you Some people are very comfortable - look to the old-timers Access to some of the best process technology around Gym is pretty good
Cons
Politics - too many kingdoms Design has no idea what they are doing. HR encourages this by making people switch roles every couple of years. So no one actually knows what they're doing to a deep level. But then, there needs only to be minor design innovations with each generation. Recurrent theme is that "if it doesn't work, it's not a problem - the software guys will program around it" Expect to be at the office past 7pm most evenings if you have to work with Asia - no you can't take the call at home. Expect to have 8am meetings if you work with Europe - and again, no, you can't take the call at home Too many layers of people doing redundant stuff that nobody is paying attention to anyway. Senior management has a pattern of just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Too many re-orgs. No idea of how things get done outside of FPGA products.
