Empower the people, delegate authority. Perform regular 360 degrees evaluations so leaders can get feedback from their teams and their peers.

    Pros

Collaborative work environment, very nice and knowledge people. Safety is definitely top of mind for everyone. Good compensation and benefits

    Cons

Utility mindset - very slow to adopt changes. Upper management also not very good at sharing information. After BHE acquisition, the company direction is shifting and restructuring is underway.

    Pros

Pay increases every 6 months if in union and if performance is good. Yearly bonus and other small bonuses for safety and performance excellence. 3 to 4 weeks vacation to start, plus 1 flex day per month, plus non-mandatory stats (mandatory stats as well, of course), sabbatical of 2 months (paid) every 4 years, networking Fridays (free wine or beer and food for everybody) teambuilding events , social club get you nice discounts on events, paid volunteering activities (frequent), academic support (invested in me ~18k in 2.5 years), good opportunities of advancement (promoted within the first 2 years), gym, basket ball court (half court) and showers at work. The CEO is a down-to-earth and very cool guy (frequently eats at cafeteria and sits and any busy random table to start genuine conversations), flexible work schedules (one day I can start at 5:30am to leave really early, the next day I can wake up at 8:20am and start work at 9:15am). Or leave earlier on a Friday and put more hours next Monday etc...some FT staff work sometime at the office, some at home. Excellent benefits like comprehensive health (I treat myself every month with massage or acupuncture), vision and dental, insurance and all that... plus wellness fund for things that you love to do (and it is good money). Energy/Utilities is a strong industry (we have to keep the lights on regarding of the oil price), this brings piece of mind to all employees, as AltaLink has NEVER layoff people since it was created. Working on a stress free (from layoffs) and great culture/work-life-balance environment; is great!!

    Cons

Pay could be 15% to 20% lower than Oil and Gas (O&G) to start, but you could get there (at least close) very quickly. However, if you consider that O&G has layoffs every 3-5 years; and factor that you may be 6mohts to 1 year without job if you work in O&G; then they pay is good. But it could be better of course. Also, the yearly bonuses should be higher as per other industry peers. Finally, in the past, we use to had daycare on-premises; I would love to see that back. Sabbatical.

    Advice to Management

Consider being more competitive with bonuses
