    Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

      Oct. 16, 2022 - Senior Software Engineer
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good starting place for newer engineers, if you are a self starter you will do well Good work life balance Occasional extra days off for whole company They did a 4-day workweek pilot over the summer

      Cons

Few opportunities for more senior engineers, many of the more experience engineers have left for better opportunities Some teams are definitely neglected compared to others Who you have as a manager will vastly affect your experience. There are some who have been around for a long time, are great at their job and will help you grow. Others have no idea what the product does or what the team is working on and will just take up time asking you to do their job for them
