    I worked at Ada full-time

    Pros

    - nice coworkers - lots of free snacks/food - "unlimited" vacay

    Cons

    - entirely white and mostly male team heads + leads - zero career planning - this is a bad place if you're a woman/non-binary/BIPOC - management is constantly lying and hiding things (like the giant definitely non-covid related layoff) - management thinks recruiting diverse talent is really hard... seriously...? this is like hiring bias 101. get it together

I worked at Ada full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Dog friendly - Free snacks, unlimited coffee, and free lunch once a week

    Cons

Leadership is inexperienced which is evident by the poor decision making and lack of experience. Things are often said that are questionable. It is obvious that a lot of the wrong people in the wrong roles making uneducated decisions. Often, poor decisions are made which impact the productivity of the teams and the efficacy of the product, which is often broken and buggy. Things get done at the very last minute and people are overworked. Teams get cancelled often and people can moved around the company. The different departments are poorly organized. People are often scrambling to get things done which impacts the quality of things. There are times the company sacrifice a lot of quality for turning things around quickly and badly. Leadership makes promises to clients that have not been validated with the right people. A lot of things are done on arbitrary timelines. Ada is not proactive and does not take their time with what they make whether that’s on building elements of the chatbot or creating a new website. It’s gone through several iterations and is broken. There is a lack of diversity in leadership. The company values do not reflect what they exercise in the work place. There’s a high turnover rate. There is a poor representation of women in the work place and diversity, especially in leadership or managerial roles. The company does not welcome criticism and there is bullying and belittling happening at the senior level. People are often too afraid to speak to leadership about issues or complaints happening in the workplace. There is no HR in place to implement any harassment, misconduct or verbal abuse.

I have been working at Ada full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I have been working at Ada for about 3 years. In that time I have seen it grow from a few people in a cramped office, to about 150 employees spread across two campuses. With such rapid growth, the company can't help but feel constantly in flux. Overall this is a really good thing: there are tons of opportunities for career advancement, personal development, and much more. I feel like I've learned more here than I have at any other job or educational institution. Even though so much is constantly changing, there are some things that have more or less remained constant. For starters, this is a company that listens. As long as issues and feedback are delivered with respect, you can be sure that people are listening and care about what you have to say. Some other things I love about the company: - A true commitment to improving diversity and inclusion - Competitive compensation and benefits - Respect for work-life balance - A TON of very talented individuals that care about their craft - Team lunches and other team building activities - Trust in employees to work in the manner that best suites them. Work from the office, from home, the coffee shop, etc.

    Cons

As I mentioned above, this is a rapidly growing company, which might have drawbacks for some people. For starters, office space is usually in flux. I have been in 5 offices with the company, and expect to be in more as the company grows. (To be honest I like this, but some might find the constant shifting exhausting). Rapid growth also means Ada doesn't always have all the answers. There are issues that come up that didn't exist when the company was smaller. I feel the company does a good job of keeping on top of these, but there is certainly room for improvement. A good example of this is the office culture. There are many initiatives that do a lot to keep people engaged (office socials, weekly lunches), but with so many new people I see a lot of the responsibility moving to individuals.

I have been working at Ada full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Ada is community I am very happy to be a part of. When I joined the company over a year ago I was worried that the high growth plans would tarnish the company culture and to be honest it remains a big concern for me. However, I have been proven wrong time and time again as the company continues to exceed my expectations by hiring interesting humans that continue to be good friends. If you value learning and work life balance over all else Ada is the right place for you. You will be challenged with your work, take on a lot of ownership and work in an environment where things are constantly changing. The company hires smart people and has faith that they will perform. The company and management has also been very invested in my personal growth and I respect that above all else. I have very many positive things to say about my experience here but wouldn’t want to bore you on yet another glassdoor review. So take my word for it: It’s a workplace that values your personal freedom, provides room for growth and is filled with smart people. I don’t really know what else I could ask for.

    Cons

If there was something the company could improve it would be more regularly scheduled feedback on work performance regardless of if much of it is positive. As a young professional it is important for me to know where I can do better and how I can add more value. Scheduled feedback would allow me to have a clearer sense of where I stand.

I have been working at Ada full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I’m the Head of People, so in some respects, it’s my job to be excited and make Ada exciting. So take this with a grain of salt if you like. Here’s why I came to Ada: - Mike. I love working with Mike. He’s genuinely caring and as excited about this growth as I am. He’s also trying to do the right thing. - My teams, both the Leadership Team and the People Ops Team. The Leadership Team has a ton of experience: people who have done this (and succeeded!) before and some insanely bright minds. Trust, but still challenging. My own team are just genuinely phenomenal at what they do. They think through the business problem, and are always willing to try new things. They also deliver results, often times exceeding my own high expectations. I feel grateful every day. - The product. There is a lot of “AI” in Toronto that either isn’t AI, or simply doesn’t work. Ada’s product actually works, and it’s great. No vaporware. We are series A but 30 million plus people use our product. That’s incredible. - The market. There is so much room (but also a lot of noise) in this market. We have great clients, and there’s still so much opportunity.

    Cons

    - We’ve added 90 people in 9 months. While people are excited to be here, we need to watch to make sure that we have good feedback to keep that real. We are succeeding so far. - Everyone is a striver here, so sometimes we forget to look up and say, wow! - Make sure we always have room for people whose background isn’t an exact match for what we are looking for.

It's a really fast paced environment so it can be tough at the beginning but luckily the onboarding and training are really structured and everyone is open to helping you if you need it.
