    Pros

You can make a lot of money if you out in big hours. Perks include company truck, benefits and vacation (if you actually manage to take time off)

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations from management; inconsistent instructions from management; foolish agendas and campaigns from head office that waste time; managers expect you to do the quickest work possible and sacrifice quality; employees who do well in sales can pretty much get away with murder; I could go on, but why bother.

    Advice to Management

They already know what they need to fix - they just won't.

    Pros

-Flexibility of schedule, as long as you're doing your job properly and get your work done they leave you alone (for the most part). When the workload allows, you are able to have light, easy days. -I can't speak for every branch, but for the most part if you need something to make your job easier/better/more efficient they will provide it for you -Great job security, especially knowing that the company won't get... sold to a bunch of corporate doofs in a board room that only care about "shareholder value" and have no knowledge of pest control. -Great behind-the-scenes support from office admins, QA department, and tech support, let's you just focus on YOUR job and not have to worry about trying to do everything yourself. -If your team works together properly you CAN have a semblance of a normal life, but as the negative reviews attest, this isn't the case for everyone. Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt, every branch is different.

    Cons

-Working for national clients is brutal. They pay peanuts and expect the moon. Too much focus on large clients at the national level, while local, better paying accounts suffer or eats into YOUR personal time. - Can be very long days with little remuneration for it. I don't mind working the occasional long day but it's often to your detriment. Very unpleasant work hours depending on the season or the client. -The... "warranty" they offer for pest control means that customers can summon you to deal with an issue even if it's completely preventable or of their own doing, all for $0. There's no repercussions for clients doing silly things, we just have to smile and take it. Huge con. -Most resources are accessible, but many more are not. Access to certain pesticides and equipment is restricted, based on whether it's sold to the branch by head office or not. Company is too focused on budgets and numbers some times. -A lot of paperwork and computer work required for simple tasks. Sometimes takes longer to do your admin tasks than the actual service. -This is not a 9-5 job, you WILL be working at home - on occasion - after you park your truck. A lot is expected and demanded of employees at the Route Manager level and quite often that eats into your own time when you don't want it to, and there's very little you can do about it. -Training for entry level staff is VERY limited. There is a huge volume of knowledge and experience required to be effective from day 1, and sadly our industry as a whole is sorely lacking. -We wear white shirts. Think about that.

    Advice to Management

Have more employee surveys. We all have a lot to say, but I can't remember the last time I was asked. Fortunately I've had the foresight to delete everything I've put in this section so as to not air dirty laundry in public. But there's quite a bit that employees are pining to say.

I worked at Abell Pest Control full-time

    Pros

For the most part Abell Pest Control employees are genuine and nice. Employees help each other out and its a nice casual working environment. Benefits are not bad. Hours are pretty good depending what job you have at head office, the hours are 8:30a.- 4:30p, Mon-Fri. There are a couple of annual employees events throughout the year.

    Cons

You can have a job but not a career at Abell. There is no growth, no succession planning. The job you start with is the only one you are going to have while you work there. There is no movement in head office. People have been in the same positions for 5, 10, 15+ years. Annual raises are not based on individual performances. All employees (non-management) get the same cost of living raise no matter what your... performance was that year. There is high turnover amongst the younger generations. There is too much of an emphasis on sales at this company. Employees who are not in a sales position are treated like second class citizens and are not recognized for the hard work they do and their contributions to the company. It can be very demoralizing.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times. This company has so much potential but its being held back by certain individuals in senior management. Have people who are qualified to do the jobs that they are hired to do- don't just give them a title or promote them by default. Engage your employees into succession planning- you might even increase your employee retention rate amongst the younger generations. Create a recognition program... of some sort for employees- a little recognition goes a very long way. This company has lost some very good people over the last 3 years, it's quite sad.
