A lot of work. Very little reward. Not worth it.

      Pros

      - Opportunity to learn due to lean nature of the organization. - Not a lot of process will allow you to execute with speed. - Entrepreneurial environment, open to new ideas/opportunities. - Product samples (office and school supplies).

      Cons

      - The industry is declining and changing and the company does not have the correct resources and mindset to keep up. - There are departments with horrible managers who are highly unprofessional. Their bad habits are contagious and accepted, so watch out! With that being said, it's not common but there are some good managers. - No focus on employee growth, learning, and professional development. - Lean to the point that it hurts employees work-life balance and it hurts the company's output. - Culture includes a lot of gossiping, throwing people under the bus, negativity. You see it everyday! This is not normal, please fix this. Don't recommend leaving any job to join ACCO Canada. There's a lot of companies out there that will treat their employees better and with a better foundation (resources, leadership, strategy). The views and opinions expressed are based on my experience and not meant to be taken as facts. Do you due diligence and reach out to former/current employees for more opinions.

      Cons

Working with brands can be difficult some brands work hard at keeping things very separate but others are very open to working and helping ACCO as a company

Worst Companies To Work For Field Service

Jul 27, 2020 - Field Service Technician in Tampa, FL
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

A gas card, Health benefits, Company van which was super unsafe.

      Cons

      1. Equipment poor design and hard to maintenance 2. Too many parts to keep track of and hard to get parts when needed 3. Management has sales but no field service experience and it shows. 4. A lot of people got let go that were needed for business so double work on employees 5. Two weeks of poor training you take very few machines apart so a big learning curve 6. Out of date service manuals and parts you have to cross-reference. 7. Poor dispatch program and clock in time. 8. Meetings about sales and not how to fix the problems we have in the field. 9. Acco will throw you under the bus and believe a vendor over what you find even if it's employee caused problem. 10. Work zones way to big sometimes over an hour drive time one way. 11. Have to pay for a company cell phone they give you only 40 for it. 12. Big lay off so lets support for Field Service

Great site to work, overall Corporation is So-So.

May 22, 2020 - Ergonomic Specialist in Sidney, NY

      Pros

The Sidney location is rural and as a result, your coworkers will be friendly, usually honest & down to earth.

      Cons

ACCO Brands Corp stripped the Sidney location, which remained profitable in 2008-2012, of many people to increase the profit margin so the benefit was dispersed to other divisions/locations to make the company balance sheet more favorable.

Best place to intern as a college student!

      Pros

ACCO Brands was great. If you're a college student wanting to get a feel for the Marketing Corporate world, this would be a great fit for you. The culture is totally relaxed, and everyone is super friendly and willing to help. I have gotten to know the best people here and would have continued my career here if it weren't for the hiring freeze caused by COVID-19. I also had the BEST boss!

      Cons

The only downside I can think of at ACCO is that you might have too much fun working there.

Constant Restructuring Creates Instability and Uncertainty

      Feb 26, 2020 - Anonymous Employee

      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The people are the best part of ACCO, there is a positive community at the office.

      Cons

Since ACCO took over the company in 2012 there has been constant uncertainty. They restructure large portions of the company every year to 18 months which induces fear, and then places a larger workload on those still employed.

      Don't do it

Apr 5, 2018 - Anonymous Employee in Lake Zurich, IL

      Business Outlook

      Pros

All workstations can see outside and you will meet some nice people. (Then again there are nice people everywhere) Compensation was reasonable but it is whatever you feel you are worth and agree on. Vacation time is good but that is dependent on your manager more than the company. Massive room to make a dent and many areas for improvement if you have the time to wait for change to happen and can tolerate a lot of B.S. to navigate the many barriers and personalities that do more to hinder than help. There is a lot of the tail wagging the dog going on... so go in eyes wide open knowing that passive aggressive and lip service are the norm.

      Cons

ACCO survives through acquisitions with little organic growth and invention resulting in declining sales and shrinking margins. Market share is due to being a big fish in a very small pond not by increased output, customer base expansion, or new product development. Are notebooks, staplers, dry marker boards and printed wall calendars the wave of the future? Company is stable but change is lip service only. Supply Chain and Ops rely on outdated systems, stale ideas and are highly inefficient. Communication from leadership is lacking, borderline dysfunctional and perceived with suspicion and low trust by staff and other departments. Lack of vision and experience translates to minimal resources and support to realize improvements. Low strategic focus with mostly opportunistic results and those in key roles leverage relationships and quick wins to be relevant. Nothing dynamic or consistent and almost always without a formal plan. Very reserved and conservative culture. Many in management seem insecure with short term mindsets, everything is quarter to quarter. Unhealthy approach to vendor management and employees. Some management do not know what to do or how members of staff should be doing things and so they spend their time figuring out how to not get fired, shifting tasks and blame on others. Often a lack of experience and maturity is obvious.

      Great place to work!

Oct 30, 2017 - Marketing Intern in Lake Zurich, IL

      Business Outlook

      Pros

It is a great place to work. As an intern, you are an important part of the team. You are never just given busy work, you do the same kind of projects that your coworkers are doing. Everyone is very friendly and always willing to help you.

      Cons

It can sometimes feel clique-y since everyone on your teams know each other well and you are new. That is very typical however and I dont fault ACCO for it.
