iQmetrix developed out of a gap in the industry realized by Christopher Krywulak, who began as an independent retailer in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Frustrated with current Retail Management and POS software, Christopher knew there had to be a better way. Using his experience as a retailer and an entrepreneur, he oversaw the development of a new Retail Management System (RMS), and thus iQmetrix was born.

iQmetrix’s success is the result of a focus on bringing the right group of people together. The company is built on, and continues to grow with, a team of some of the retail industry’s most passionate and innovative thought-leaders. As a company, iQmetrix values forward thinking while remaining authentic and giving back to the community around us.

Since our start in 1999, iQmetrix has grown to become one of the leading providers of retail management solutions for the North American retail industry. Our passion for retail and creating great experiences for retailers, their employees and the end consumers has helped us take that expertise and expand it into the greater retail market.

Our products have also expanded beyond a full-suite RMS to a centralized Platform philosophy that includes modular RMS and solutions to enhance the in-store experience for customers and staff. Using this Platform philosophy, we invite third-party APIs to create new partnerships and new business opportunities for our company and our clients. All of these pieces comes together in a powerhouse of metrics, which the retailer can use to drive future growth and operational efficiencies.

What is development like at iQmetrix?

  • We are first and foremost passionate about software development. We are continuous learners and work together to make each other better every day. We pair program and believe that close collaboration is the best way to share knowledge.
  • We require excellent problem-solving skills but not just to solve problems. We find the right solution, not just the first one we come up with.
  • Most of our developers have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, but skills and abilities come first.
  • Communication is key. We work in multi-disciplinary teams and most communication is verbal. The formal documentation we do have is a result of these verbal conversations.
  • To create high quality software, we write clean, extensible, S.O.L.I.D. object-oriented code and use techniques like Test-Driven Development and Continuous Deployment to ensure that we sustain our velocity over time.
  • Delivering value to our customers is our top priority and we look for devs with a strong bias for action. We strive for excellence, but don’t let “perfect” get in the way of moving forward.
  • We automate everything that moves, to transition from coding to deployment to production as quickly and as often as possible.
  • Our systems are based on a distributed, micro-service architecture. We build REST APIs, leverage Azure Service Bus and ØMQ to build highly scalable and efficient products.
  • Our web apps are built as single page apps using modern JavaScript tools and frameworks such as Backbone.js, Bootstrap and gulp.
  • Tools like Git, ReSharper and Postman allow us to move quickly and don’t get in the way. Our dev teams use open source tools a lot; we’ve contributed to several open source projects including NancyFx and NetMQ.

    Office politics. I dont perceive this as negative though, it's a reason to prove your worth. Just put in the good work continuously with a good attitude and your work will justify you.

    I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at iQmetrix (Regina, SK).


    5 minute phone interview and then 2 in person interviews. The phone interview was very short about 5 minutes tops. The in person interview was about half and hour, very casual interview. One of the interviewers spent the whole time on his cell phone. The first this i was asked was if i knew anyone that worked there, when i said not that i know of they said oh we usually only interview people who know someone here. The interview questions didn't have a whole lot to do with the role itself, they would be better off if they had actual HR people doing the interviews.
