I have been working at University of Nottingham full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - I enjoy collaborating and working on projects with my colleagues.
    - The environment is relaxed and I am mostly free to manage my own time.

    Cons

    - Dealing with IT can be difficult when something is out of the ordinary and doesn't fit into Office365 or OneDrive.
    - Salaries are not competitive for certain industries, such as Computer Science.
    - Little acknowledgement for contributions outside of explicit job description.
    - Performance reviews offer little reward. I don't feel like there is a way I can be adequately rewarded for my efforts.
    - Building is in poor condition.

    Advice to Management

Outsourcing IT will be a major mistake. Get rid of management, they don't know what they are doing. Give them a larger budget to actually improve things instead of try to sustain what already exists.

Employees and their skillsets do not fit into three or four sizes. You need to understand what people are actually contributing and pay them fairly.

    Interview

Shown around labs by one of the other technicians. Then 20 minute interview with 3 members of staff, each questioned me on difference aspects. I had a chance to ask them questions too
