I worked at Sony Pictures Animation full-time (More than a year)
Great atmosphere, friendly people, employees are respected.
- I was respected, but not necessarily trusted to do my job the right way. Was mostly a set of hands.
- Most of the movies are not great. Not too proud to work on them.
- Upper-level politics among executives create a TON of problems (particularly at SPE, not SPA).
Advice to Management
Focus on creating better movies. Trust your artists to create art.
I applied through other source. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Sony Pictures Animation (Vancouver, BC) in October-2010.
Telephone interview as coming from overseas. Very polite and friendly. When filling out the background check didn't realise that half the info was not mandatory, so included a lot of very personal information such as former salaries that are not really relevant and NOT a requirement. Yet no on pointed this out to me until I arrived and my colleagues here was amazed that they would inquire so much personal info.
10 mins on the phone, took a pay cut in favor of working on a big project. In hindsight could have pushed more.
