I worked at PSYONIX full-time (More than 3 years)
- Dave (CEO) is incredible. He and his wife treat the company like their baby and as such, work hard to foster a company culture they are proud of. They also care about making the best games (for players) that they can. At the time, they were mostly doing contract work, but never once phoned in any work on these projects. They wanted to make the best decisions for players and it shows, especially in their own titles.
- Coworkers are inviting and social. There are regular events where the company takes days off of work to bond together. This is because they treat each other like family instead of merely employees. They are also highly talented in their respective positions and avid gamers.
- Compensation was higher than industry average (at the time). About 10k more than other companies because they didn't offer profit sharing as they were mostly doing contract work. After Rocket League became a smash hit, they were very generous to their employees.
At the time, production was overworked so it sometimes fell on you to find the tasks that needed to be done (instead of having them prioritized ahead of time).
Couple with the above point, there was originally a lack of process when it came to things like checkins, but it has gotten markedly better
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at PSYONIX (San Diego, CA (US)) in December 2011.
People were nice and trying to make me comfortable. Whole team were there to have lunch with me and that was pretty impressive. After lunch, I had an interview with boss, and he was very nice to explain about the company an his vision. It was nice.
I didn't make any negotiation.
