Keirton – Why Work With Us?

WE LEAD. WE INNOVATE. WE DELIVER.

We’re solution engineering experts. We’ve grown from humble beginnings as a small business to become one of North America’s most respected names in specialty solution engineering.

Our outstanding team of designers, technicians, engineers and support staff are dedicated to producing the tools and technology that improve your environment and we’re ready to put our expertise and experience to work for you.

Today, we’re a leader in product engineering, and idea development. We are based in Surrey, B.C., Canada (just outside Vancouver) and Ferndale, WA, USA. Together, we have the insight, expertise, and distribution network to bring your best ideas to life, and rapidly push them to the market.

WHAT DRIVES US

Our core values are more than just words on a wall; it’s our DNA. In everything we do, people come first. When you weave the thread of personalized care throughout your culture, the ripple effect is amazing. From something as simple as making a teammate smile, to helping a customer get the right system for their first harvest, we believe if we put people first success will follow.

STRONGER TOGETHER

“Get the right people, in the right place, with the right tools, and something special happens.”

That philosophy, along with an uncompromising commitment to quality, service, and ingenuity, has been the key to our success. Paired with the combination of diverse ideas, skill sets and, backgrounds, we foster an environment where expectations are consistently exceeded, and innovative solutions are conceived, designed, and produced.

HELPING PEOPLE GROW

Keirton was founded on innovation and a dream, and because of that, we believe in providing an atmosphere where our staff can do the same thing. We not only want people to grow both personally and professionally, but we encourage it through mentorship, courses, and training. We want you to be the best you. We are extremely proud that many of our current staff have risen through the ranks, and that some of our past teammates have started their own ventures and even create publicly traded companies.

Disruption and innovation were forged in our early years. From fabricating products in a portable unit beside the Fraser River to having to race to move inventory upshore each time the river would flood. We started humble, but more importantly, we started hungry. Today we have grown to become award-winning global leaders in innovation.

"Keirton has been on the top of my list of any company I ever worked for or heard of. The relation between employees and employers are mutually respectful and absolutely positive. Because of this, I noticed that all employees work hard, not because they were told but because they want to. This should be a model for any company. Ultimately the culture is created by the management and the employees gladly participate. The result is something I have not yet experienced anywhere else. The company is efficient and extremely fast growing with a very happy team."

"Great atmosphere and culture. Everyone works as a team as we all believe a team effort is needed for the business to succeed. Everyone gets along and trusts one another and it feels like a family."

I have been working at Keirton full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Keirton strives to help people grow, customers and employees alike. The company is willing to provide opportunities for further development, including internal or external training, cross training, and new responsibility/accountability. Company is heavy on goal setting. Once a quarter, employees does goal setting that contribute to the overall company goals. These are tied to quarterly bonuses.

    - Colleagues are great to work with. People are open and honest. It's a collaborative atmosphere. There are BBQs, beer Fridays, catered lunches, etc throughout the year to build that comradery between colleagues.

    - Management listens to people want. After events or activities, there are feedback surveys done. Mental health is taken seriously and there are mental health initiatives.

    - Team morning huddles, Friday company wide huddles, Team meetings, one on ones are ways to ensure transparency in delivering information, goals and initiatives.

    - Environment is fast paced and everyday is something different.

    - Management recognizes deficiencies and make changes to correct them. However, these take time and can't be fixed overnight.

    Cons

    - Limited office space. Lack of proper desk in certain areas and tough to book meeting spaces especially for conference calls.

    - Parking spots are limited. They're on a first come first serve basis so if you come in late or go out during the day, you may lose your parking spot. If the road is undergoing some work or there's no parking allowed, nearest parking spots are a bit of a walk, especially in poor weather.

    - Revisit the employee compensation package as the whole quarterly bonus shouldn't be fully tied to the goal setting structure. It's very discouraging and demotivating when employees are unable to hit goals due to circumstances beyond their control.

    - Lack of structure and clear processes. There is lack of clarity as to who does what in the process or what is the process.

    - The company is growing faster than the people can keep up with. Depending on the position, the capacities are maxes and distribution of workload to other maxed capacity staff doesn't make the situation better.

Although I've pointed out a number of cons, there are changes being made to fix the situation. As mentioned above, management recognizes the issues and are have plans in place to fix them. Rome wasn't built in a day.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Keirton (Vancouver, BC) in November 2020.

    Interview

My thorough interview process took 6 weeks in total, it consisted of several meetings together with HR, VP of Marketing as well as the Senior Content Producer, all online due to COVID-19. It also consisted of a creative Video Test where I had an opportunity to shine a light on my professional skills. This was by far the longest set of interviews I've ever had, but I understand the intent. Hiring people in the right seats means a lot to them and they are looking for a good culture fit. The people involved in the process were genuinely nice.
