We wouldn’t be who we are without our people.

At Intersect, we’re not just co-workers, we’re family.

We love to have a good time together, whether it’s by having fun themed days in the office, going to events together, giving back to the community around us, or just hanging out at the office - we grow by collaborating together.

Our People:

The values that we expect from potential Intersectors:

1. Curious (intrigued by new technology, people and processes).

2. Respectful (they’re empathetic, and overall good people).

3. Agility (they’re adaptable and move fast with our teams and clients).

4. Growth (they’re dedicated to growing, every single day - through everything they do).

Diversity & Inclusion is engrained within our business. Our internal D&I committee plans monthly events, pushes forward initiatives that matter, and ensures we are constantly working to do better. The conversation doesn’t stop there. We encourage open dialogue through asking employees to provide anonymous questions at our weekly town halls and Slack channels like #dadsandmoms, #ladieschat and much more.

At Intersect, we take our social committee (or as we call it, our Rodeo Clowns) very seriously. The  four main pillars that we use to organize our internal initiatives are:

● Play More - activities that bring out our vivacious side eg: Harth Nite (Intersect’s own talent show that is held quarterly)

● Give more  - activities that give back to the community eg: Bike Day (Once a year we take a half day off to build bikes that we donate to children in need)

● Live More  - activities that enhance our fitness, health and mental health eg: basketball leagues

● Learn More - activities that teach us something new eg: book club initiatives, lunch and learns

Annual Kick Off is a yearly get away where our office takes a few days out of the office to hang out with each other. We have been to Blue Mountain, Cuba and the Bahamas to name a few.

Go Further

The last 12 years of Intersect have been a constant iteration on what works for our people. We are a well-oiled machine that anticipates a future filled with new opportunities and would love for you to join us on this journey!

Some of the things that you can expect from being part of our family:

Our managers and employees are hired and trained to be your champions. We foster an environment that encourages open dialogue and it works. To stay further connected we have weekly town halls to celebrate milestones, share updates, welcome new hires and answer anonymous questions.

We’re big believers that the main benefit of working at INTERSECT is the fact that you will find yourself surrounded by incredibly intelligent hard working people solving challenging problems. Having healthy conversations about tech trends and ways we could continue to push the bar with our products is second nature to us.

We offer a comprehensive extended health care package, paid Mat & Pat leave, an energy pod for naps, standing desks, a wall of snacks and weekly catered lunches.

If off-site adventures, unique traditions, birthday celebrations and bi-weekly social events are your thing, look no further! We have events that cater to all types of personalities and new ideas are welcome as we love to experiment! You just have to show up to work and be your wonderful self.

Opportunities are plentiful within our walls. We encourage our people to take courses, attend meet-ups or even fly out to conferences that help them professionally. The only thing we ask for is that the information gathered is shared with your team. Career development is important to us as our teams are constantly expanding and we continue to encourage promotions from within.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at INTERSECT full-time (More than a year)

It's cliched amongst tech companies at this point, but Intersect is the best culture I've everworked in.

Intersect actively seeks out opportunities for learning, personal growth and inclusion for their team members. We have weekly lightning talks that cover every topic from LGBTQ rights/history to biomimicry, all the way over to other super important topics why 'I lost in fantasy football'. We also have more industry-focused lunch and learns to get team members informed on trends in design, tech, and business in general.

Management (from the CEO down) is very down to earth, transparent and care about every person at the company. Further to this, I've never experienced a tech leadership team so committed to every aspect of their developer's well being. Tech + Design leads hold weekly one on ones with every person in their pod, and I can't undersell how important that is to everyone here. In all honesty, the management team at Intersect are equally well equipped to help you learn and grow as a professional and make you laugh your *ss off.

There are always lots of weekly/monthly activities to take part in, both official and unofficial. We've recently broken out our social committee into four groups focused on creating initiatives focused on helping team members live, give, play, learn MORE.

We're growing. A lot. There is a lot of opportunities for career growth, and you'll meet SO MANY smart, interesting, caring human beings here.

We're growing. A lot. There are a lot of changes going on as we transition, and it's difficult to know exactly what shape we'll take on the other side

We we're recently acquired, and while our company always felt like a hot rod zipping down the track, it now feels a little like someone strapped a jet engine to our ride and pressed ignition. What this means is that our size, people, and processes are constantly in flux.

You have to be adaptable to feel comfortable in an environment like that.

    Advice to Management

We've been lucky so far that the hires we've made that enable us to scale have had a positive effect on our company culture, please keep this responsible growth plan going forward.

Agency work is stressful, and we need to exercise every opprotunity to reward our teams and individuals for the hard work and sacrifices they make to get us across the finish line.

    Web Interface Engineer Interview

    Average Interview

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at INTERSECT (Toronto, ON) in April 2019.

A phone screen, followed by 3 in-person interviews with different members of the team. There was a general whiteboarding exercise in one of the interviews, that was more to determine my way of thinking than my specific coding skills. I was able to walk through projects that I built and talk about challenges that I faced, and what I would do differently. All the interviews felt more like conversations, everyone was really nice to talk to and even if I didn't get an offer I would have been happy because I get serious test anxiety so I was so glad to not have to go through an intense timed coding test.
