Company Updates

  • Last week, we celebrated National AccessAbility Week, which runs from May 31-June 6. This week provides an opportunity for each of us to recognize the efforts of those who are actively removing barriers and ensuring people with disabilities have an equal chance to participate in all aspects of our society. For people with disabilities, barriers are a part of everyday life. While some barriers offer simpler solutions than others, there's one challenge that seems to remain for most people living with disabilities – and that's stigma. It's why Isaac Cabrera decided to join the ICBC Disability Inclusion Employee Resource Group (ERG). “I thought it was a great opportunity to influence the way we view people with disabilities. I want to help people become more aware and learn about different types of disabilities." As a wheelchair user, Isaac says it's not uncommon for people to make assumptions about him or his disability. Join us as we work together to create an inclusive environment that eliminates the stigma of living with visible and invisible disabilities.

  • Our Road Safety & Community Coordinator, Harvey Kooner, is a fundraising superstar. For the past 13 years, Harvey has organized toy drives and collected more than 40,000 toys for families in need. Harvey also works in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, organizing youth mentoring conferences, and volunteering on many United Way campaigns. So, it was no surprise that Harvey was recently named the recipient of United Way's 2019 Local Love award for individuals. Each year, this award recognizes an individual who exemplifies what it means to mobilize diverse stakeholders to improve our community. With Harvey's enthusiasm and leadership, ICBC employees raised $353,547 in the 2019 campaign, an increase of more than $15,000 over the previous year, and we saw a 36% pledge participation rate, which was a whopping 24% increase from 2018's rate!

    Pros

Great people.Once you're in you're part of the family.

    Cons

Work itself isn't all that fun, gets repetitive and yea... just not fun.

    Advice to Management

Less office politics would definitely add to the productivity but it wouldn't be as much fun so don't change anything

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at ICBC (Canada) in July 2019.

    Interview

3 rounds - One of them was with HR, which included general screening and very high level questions to see if I had a background in Insurance (I didn't). The second interview was with the Hiring Manager, which was completely behavioural. It was an hour long and full of 'tell me about a time..' questions. The final interview was with the group head, which was more about identifying why I want to work at ICBC and to determine personality/fit. Generally speaking, all my engagements with HR were very pleasant - they get back to you on time and don't keep you waiting. They're also very transparent throughout the entire process.
