    Application

    I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HiTech Merchant Services (Brooklyn, NY (US)) in December 2016.

    Interview

    I applied online for a position, and was called roughly three days later by the COO, Zachary Gann, for an interview on site with him. Upon arrival, I found myself amongst a group of people that were not diverse, and I was not exactly made to feel welcome. I drove from Westchester to the office, and it took me about 2 hours, during a time where traffic was not heavy. The office was located in a shady area of Bed-Stuy, despite being told that it was in Williamsburg, and it was not clean, with many stains on the carpet, food left out in offices, and had a strange odor. I was taken to a small office, where the interview took place, and the COO spent 90% of the time talking, mostly about himself, and what he accomplished over the past few months in the company. Each time he asked me a question about my background, I would be able to get in a few sentences before it became visible that he wanted to speak again. He seemed to discredit my qualifications and past accomplishments, stating “well, that’s my role here”, or “that’s my job as the COO”. At the end of the interview, he mentioned there being a small assessment that needed to be taken in order to have the CEO make a decision. He stressed the importance of the assessment and asked that I would take it as soon as possible. He sent me one assessment, and then later in the day, stated that I needed to take a different assessment, that ended up being 7 assessments in total, taking 90 minutes of time. He also made it seem that I would receive the results of the assessment, but I did not. I asked him for a timeline on a decision made, or for next steps, and he mentioned by the end of the following week. He was quick to respond to m emails when it came to the assessment, but upon completion of the assessment, his communication with me ceased. I followed up with him via email and did not receive a response. Finally, after calling him and leaving a message, he responded to let me know that they decided to move forward with another candidate. During my time in waiting on his response, I decided to do some additional research and learned that the COO lied to me in the interview about numerous things, but what was most unsettling was his lies about his time at HiTech, and the roles he had there previously. I am completely satisfied with their decision to move forward with another candidate as the culture, integrity of the people, and morality of the company did not meet my criteria in this employer. Based on this interview experience, I would encourage anyone who is interested in this company to do as much research as possible, prior to applying.
