Retail Schedule - but that's expected

    Advice to Management

Commission is a great incentive, as well as recognition within the company, however, challenges not related to sales $ could be great team building events. A bigger budget for holidays would be nice and make employees feel appreciated.

    Difficult Interview

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Ethan Allen (Calgary, AB) in March 2018.

I applied through Indeed and recieved a phone call and an invite through Indeed for interview next day. I called back to confirm the time and date. The first interview was very easy. I was invited for a design presentation as my second interview. I was told that I would be designing one room only. I came home and sent a thank you email after my first interview. I was never replied.
On the day of Design presentation, I was given whole floor to design with 3 areas.
I was told that I would be presenting to the store manager and one other designer who would be my mock client couple.
It took me 4 hours to preare the design as the mock client had lots of design demands.
At the time of presentation, there were four people instead of two. I shook hands with each of them and introduced myself but no one introduced themselves or explained their position within the Company.
They made silly objections to furniture layout at the end of presentation such as if the pet cat can run around coffee table. The design explaination never mentioned a fireplace but they acted there was a fireplace too and i placed a sofa covering it
I stayed flexible and said furniture placement could be reshifted as the room was large enough. The presentation took another hour on top of four hours to select materials.
At the end of presentation, the manager told me they had to interview others. I thanked them and got cold responses in return.
I sent another thank you email after I came back but got no reply as before. I made a follow up call two days later and the manger's response was uninterested. I found this entire process highly unprofessional. I was never appreciated for the hours I invested. The manager did not have the courtesy to let me know they hired someone else.
I am glad they hired someone else as I would not be part of a cold, uninterested and highly unprofessional team.
