    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at EF English First in January 2016.

    Interview

It was a very nice interview. Professional but not rigid. I was encouraged to engage in conversation and was asked a lot of unique but relevant questions to my abilities as a teacher, colleague, and employee. Overall one of my favourite interviews. I did not find it to be difficult because I had already done so many interviews, but for someone new to the process they may find it intimidating and stressful.

    Interview Questions

    Reasons for Declining

The location was a dream and the it seemed like a nice place to work, but the pay was dismal. They tried to pass it off as an "excellent salary" but most of the other jobs offered me 2500 RMB+ more a month and I only have a little experience. They also make a point of saying the salary provided is *after* taxes and act like it makes them more honest than other schools. Well I asked 7 of the other schools I interviewed for and all of them advertised the salary after taxes (net salary.) I suspect the 3-4 other schools I interviewed before them did the same. They also mentioned bonuses but so did almost all the other schools.

However, had the pay matched what the vast majority of other schools had offered me (10, 000 RMB a month) then I probably would have taken the job. It all came down to salary.
