Why Accessible Products Are Better, and How to (Start to) Build Them

As product designers and developers, our mission is to build better products. But "better" can mean a lot of things. One way to define it is in terms of a product's usability; we want to create products that can be used, and enjoyed, by as many people as possible.

Connected – Why Work For Us?

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in downtown Toronto, Connected was born out of the belief that a new category of firm was needed to help ambitious companies leverage the power of product: not a dev shop, or a design agency, or a strategic consultancy, but a uniquely integrated product development firm, built for the long-term, and driven by a singular focus on realizing business impact through software-powered products.

    Software Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Toronto, ON

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Connected (Toronto, ON) in January-2018.

    Interview

Hackerrank test, followed by in person interview.

Hackerrank test was I believe 2 questions, one was finding a node in a tree, the other was ticket line. Ticket line has people standing in line. Can only by one ticket at the booth, each person has some amount of tickets they want to buy. It takes 1 second to buy a ticket and if the person has more tickets to buy they move to the back of the line. Given ticket line with n people (each wants to buy some amount of tickets) and desired person (i.e third person in line), how long till the desired person buys all their tickets?

In person interview is short behavioural followed by technical questions (I list them below).

    Interview Questions

    • What does this code do? How would you make it more efficient? Question was finding max distance between same values in a list. Inefficient code was O(n^2).   Answer Question
    • Design a database for a clothing store. What about user/password storage? Adding to cart? What about storing whether user is logged in? What about if multiple login's allowed? Clothing sizes, different kinds (S, M, L, XL) (30, 32, 34, 36 ...)   Answer Question
    • Design REST API for the clothing store. What kinds of commands? What HTTP method? What url? What about filtering (i.e show only pants)?   Answer Question
    • How does the internet work?   Answer Question
    • What happens in front end and back end for a POST?   Answer Question
